Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

How hilarious would American football in the Olympics be? Could the USA send high schoolers and get the Gold still?

As I casual fan I hate this rule staying in place.

Not sure what's best for the sport, but keeping your superstars in the limelight as much as possible is like Grow Your Sport 101.

Who was complaining when they gave you one freebie? (honest question)

Interesting question...

How long could it possibly take for a country like Australia to find enough guys who want to go to the Olympics that they'd be willing to dedicate their lives to playing football?

Clearly they'd smash on high schoolers if they had the funding and put in the effort to learn the game.

But would they? If not them, which countries would?

I'm assuming most of the guys in the CFL aren't actually from Canada?

I think it's safe to assume it would have to be college level players to win the gold. (Of course there would be some high schoolers who would be good enough to make the team)

From what I was reading, events were taking too long. Since the field got a freebie, there would "always" be a guy who would purposely false start to make sure the next false start is a DQ.

Some cool slow motion footage of Usain Bolt. Great form.

That's a great look at the form you need to have to be a sprinter.

Stephanie Rice, gold medal swimmer from Australia posted this on her Twitter and is receiving crap for it.

Well that makes some sense but I think there's a happy medium.

Like how about each sprinter gets one freebie per (x) amount of races. After they've used that one, they will be disqualified on the 1st false start in any race until they've completed enough races to earn another freebie.

That's just off the top of my head. Maybe it's one freebie per year, or every two years, or whatever.

Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

yea wow didn't know that, 1 seems kind of ridiculous but i'm not a track star maybe its really not as easy to mess up as I feel like it should be or getting off quick to the gun is not as important as I think it is

Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

It's very important to get off to a quick start.

But the whole point is to make it so the race determines who is actually the fastest, not who can anticipate the gun the best.

5-10 years approx.

I'm assuming most of the guys in the CFL aren't actually from Canada? actually about 50/50, the linemen are likely Canadian

I think it's safe to assume it would have to be college level players to win the gold. (Of course there would be some high schoolers who would be good enough to make the team)
Countries interested in American handegg[based on previous world cups]:
Canada
Japan
Mexico
Russia
Austria
Germany

Im thinking Canada would be the favorite v American high schoolers but College players would demolish them.
