Assuming there being a rule about playing to win/playing in the spirit of the game, they massively ****ed up their EV calcs by doing what they did, especially when they were warned in the middle of the game that they could get DQ'd.

Anyway, surely there are are situations where the spirit of the sport is more important than winning a medal? These people are only on the stage that they are on because of the people that support them and want to watch them compete. To disrepect those people deserves the DQ imo.

This is the Olympic Oath that is taken on behalf of all the competitors:

In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.

Oath broken --> go home.

Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

when you're making it that obvious it's kinda hard not to give the DQhammer

at least try and put in some seemingly exciting looking rallies

and yet again south korea manages to be involved in some form of controversy

The Olympic motto is "Faster, Higher, Stronger"

Not how to game the system.

Yeah, plus it sort of snowballed from the first team trying not to win. At least now players know that their opponents will prob get DQ's if they do it that obviously, so they don't need to retaliate in a who-can-play-worse kinda way.

Read the rest of the line you quoted. Without the viewers they would not even be in the position where they could have committed this farce.

USA vs Spain are in different mens pools... cant play till the quarters (probably semis or final depends on where they each finish, namely if Brazil can beat Spain)

Women the Spanish arent in

Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

Just had a look at the draw for the badminton...

The teams that got a huge advantage out of all of this...

South Africa, Russia, Canada and Australia...

BUMP IT!!!

One quarter final was Russia vs South Africa (Russia won easy) and the other is Australia vs Canada (Aussies are probably favourites).

Assuming they both get flogged in the semis. Russia and Australia get to flip for a medal...

Awesome.

Re: Olympics: London 2012 Summer Games

badminton tournament format needs to be changed. What kind of sport rewards a weak competitor by pairing them against another weak competitor? Totally stupid.

On a different subject. synchronized divers are pigs. I thought it was a requirement to be a hot chick. very disappointing.

from what ive read its because the #1 ranked got upset by another (seen as weaker by everyone) in the group stage.
