Kinda odd to go from best in the world to doing really terrible at qualifying in 4 years, she must have been being more of a celebrity than practicing and training. Plus gymnasts have pretty small elite status windows anyway.
Nastia hadn't done any competitive gymnastics since 2009. She decided in late 2011 to get back to the gym and try to make the team, but that just wasn't enough time to train.
Pretty excited that Michael Phelps is going to be racing 7 events this year. That would give him 21 gold medals for his career. That's insane. I think that Ryan Lochte might beat him in the 200m IM though.
no woman has defended the all around gold since 1980.
Not "no woman has won twice in a row". No woman has even qualified/competed in the next olympics after winning the all-around gold medal for more than 30 years. Nadia Comaneci, one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, was the last to do it, and that was because she won the all-around gold at 14 years old in 1976 (which would be disallowed today, you have to be 15 to compete). She came back to win more medals in 1980 at 18, then retired.
Additionally, there hasn't been an all around champ older than 20 since the 1960's, which essentially means it has never happened in the modern sport.
yeah, the windows are pretty ****ing small for elite gymnasts.

Does anyone know if eric the eel qualified this year?
He's actually the coach of the team now.
For those who've never heard the story of him. He won his heat in the 100m freestyle in the 2000 Olympics with a time of 1:52. The world record at the time was 1:45 . . . for 200m. He actually brought his personal best down to 57 seconds by 2004, but couldn't compete in 2004.
I cant believe every morning session for the athletics and the swimming are sold out!?!...And not a single tennis ticket for sale...
You live in London? Then yes.
If you wanted tickets, you had to be trying from the very beginning, not 2 weeks before where everything is sold out. Now, if you want tickets, you'll have to pay a buttload if you want to go to any of the popular events.
That said, I might have a pair of tennis tickets for sale (Men's double bronze medal match + women's singles bronze medal match + mixed doubles bronze medal match) if you are interested.

I live in Sweden and have bought tickets for five events on that site.
I have been watching that site for months.
Im prepared to pay quite a lot of money for the tickets but obv prefers to buy it from the official site.
From my experience its very rare that every morning session for the athletics is sold out. But now its only two weeks away...
