Why would you be so happy to get the coach of a team that you claim wasn't even top 20 each of the years that they went to the title game and that teaches such a horrible style of basketball?

Stevens already killed those rumors he was offered 8 years, 21 mil....

Praying he doesn't leave... as many Butler fans have already twitter bombed Stevens asking him to say and offering to up donations in his name for his salary increase

Yes, I am one of those

Illinois Sucks.

Also hoping that Stevens looks back on Todd Lickleiter and realizes when he left Butler for Iowa, it was the same scenario and Iowa never went anywhere and it was awful

MT2R, can you explain why any coach would be afraid of recruiting Chicago? That makes no sense.

Illinois with their worst possible hire will be a more successful program than Stevens at Butler, so more like "Butler sucks".

there are unofficial ways to approach things in Chicago that happen in every major city, but to a larger extent in Chicago. Some people don't like it.

The movie Blue Chips comes to mind if you want it laid out explicitly.

Illinois and Iowa are two different worlds. At least, they had been before Weber.

I like the PR win for the school and I think he'd do well.

Still, he wouldn't be my first choice. I would go for a much more up-tempo direction and embrace the inner-city aspect of the state with the hire.

Stevens actually encouraged them as there was no way he was out chalking his driveway with his daughter today.

Reminds me of Urban Meyer's denials about Ohio State.

The questions, now, are:
1) if Illinois will give him all he wants
2) is he just using Illinois to get more out of Butler

I about lost it when the author said Theus can convince Meyers Leonard to come back to school. How selfish. That kid needs to go pro.

more like getting dissed by Mike Tomlin and ending up with Josh McDaniels/Layne Kiffin

Meyers would probably end up with more money over the long haul if he stayed a year and had a man like, say, Deon Thomas as asst coach and teaching him big man moves. With small improvement, he can be a top 5 pick in the draft next year.

However, Meyers has a really tough family spot and I expect him to jump early similar to what Marcus Liberty had to do.

It would be very selfish to ask him to stay. IMO, any time a guy is guaranteed first round, he should go.

The funny thing is they interviewed his neighbors who saw him outside with his daughter doing that exact same thing along with players that tweeted pictures of them fishing with him..

Get you ****ing facts straight on something you don't follow and know nothing about

and to the person that said the worst hire for illinois will still be a better program than butler ever will be with stevens?

Tell that to our past 10 years of the NCAA tournament and coaches that have been promoted onto larger schools

Such Mid-Major hate, yet all the great ones have to start somewhere

I think you should look up the last 10 years of Illinois and Butler on Kenpom. No matter who Illinois hires, they'll be ahead of Butler consistently.

Representatives are working on both sides. Whether Stevens is using Illinois or is serious is not known. But, there are negotiations taking place.

Yeah, Collier and Lickliter were such great coaches.

Is KenPom seriously like the only argument a team can make against mid-majors?

We get it. Our conferences aren't "great" and will never get 9 teams in, in which usually 2-3 don't even finish .500 in conference.

But dear god, I could care less if we were 300 in KenPom. I will take our "fluke" luck then the past 10 years over being top 10 in KenPom and either a. not making the tourney or b. getting dumped in the first year every year and not coming close to winning our conference

Also please remind me the last time KenPom decided the national champion or conference champion or who won the game

Ya, there were "negotiations" taking place with Oregon too.. they threw him everything but Phil Knight's mansion and he turned it down

things have changed a lot in the past year

Crean is now safe at IU for the foreseeable future and Stevens was hoping to run to that job.

Butler's admin is dragging feet on jumping into A-10 for bball.

Upgrades to facilities only amounted to $25M at the top.
