I'd rather stay away from WWW tbh. We've gotten recruits just fine with Jerrance on staff.
I assume Stevens is unattainable given the previous programs he turned down.

I'd think only IU can get him in the Midwest and they aren't looking anytime soon.

Maybe, UCLA will grab him.

There will be a lot of pressure to hire a black head coach. So Smart is likely the guy we'd want most, though I think Brad Stevens is clearly the best "available" guy. I think either is a longshot though.
Randy Bennett has to be in line for a big job somewhere too. He's probably a step or two below Stevens.

Zook so dumb

all he needed was to be avg on special teams the past 4 years and he'd be safe for another couple years

Weber has not been safe for the last 4 years

it's not exactly cheating

there are plenty of loopholes and gray areas other programs are using. They were things Self tried to do and negotiated back-and-forth with Guenther before he did bolt to Kansas.

There is a middle ground here. Weber lumped it all in with cheating, which isn't exactly true.

Given Illinois has 4 freshmen from Chicago, 3 of which were RSCI top 100, this complaint falls a bit on deaf ears.

While it's heavily alleged Rose, Collins, and Davis recruitments were ugly. There is still plenty of talent on the up-and-up and 2 of the 3 names here had gray area things that could've and did bring them to their schools.

I'm sure you're right. Like I said I hardly follow the big 10, all I recall hearing was "Scheyer eschewed Illinois even though he played for Weber's bro in HS lolllllll." And it's my favorite because I'm a Duke fan, naturally.

Scheyer grew up a Duke fan. His dad was a big Duke fan. He went to fantasy adult camps at Duke. Scheyer and his father cried together when Laetner hit the shot to beat Kentucky.

Weber got hired at Illinois with Scheyer already a near lock to goto Duke. That one didn't bother me at all.

The recruit miss that really bothered me was Sherron Collins. He, in the press, said he was going to Illinois. He idolized Dee Brown and wanted to be the next. Kansas used some gray area stuff to funnel money to Longstreet, the handler of Collins (allegedly). It was stuff Illinois could have done but didn't. Collins was Illinois to lose, and they did.

The other recruiting misses that hurt are:
Robbie Hummel - Weber took the sure thing commitment with Billy Cole and gave up the battle Illinois was leading for Hummel.
Iman Shumpert - hated Weber's style and BigTen slowdown in general, so he bolted to G Tech.
Chasson Randle - Father is huge Illinois fan, but he disliked Big Ten's style and went to Stanford.
Suggs and Beal - both hated the style of play.
Evan Turner - Illinois was close to locking him up and his father reappears in his life and happens to live in Columbus... grrrr.
Brandon Rush - Illinois was about the sole contender at one point and passed because they didn't think he could get approved academically.

Those were the ones that hurt.

Rose had to go to an Adidas school and Illinois is Nike, so it couldn't work out.

Anthony Davis.... well... from what I've heard, you'd have to go beyond gray area for that one.

I wonder how willing the new AD is in going into these gray areas. College sports is a weird beast. All I know if that I would be okay if my college did almost nothing to try and produce a winning program(lol WIU so close this year). Just not worth it in my opinion.

I never watch cbb. but Weber and his staff were prolly really average at recruiting. All Weber had was that one 30-1 year or whatever.

I hope Illinois takes their sweet ass time searching. Definitely a program in which you can do some things with

Meh, while the job he did the last couple years pretty clearly weren't worthy of keeping a job, by all accounts he's not the type of person I think it's cool to dance on the figurative grave of.
