Our long national nightmare is finally over. Three years too late. Better than four years too late I guess.

A classic example of a One hit wonder coach.

He wasn't really a one year wonder. He used self's talent to do well and then basically declined almost every year after their national championship appearance run.

At first the knock was that he was a great game coach, but just couldn't recruit. Turns out - he's not very good at either.

Is illinois a job that Smart would be interested in? Obv its got to be his job if he wants it, but the guy seemed to get a ton of offers last year too and passed on all of them.

seems like chicago is a dirty city and he refused to cheat

Biggest prob was he was a very poor leader and an inflexible game coach.

now you can hire some guy from a mid-standings A-10 team and be just as bad!

Maybe. At least there's a chance with that.

There will be a lot of pressure to hire a black head coach. So Smart is likely the guy we'd want most, though I think Brad Stevens is clearly the best "available" guy. I think either is a longshot though.

Also, if UNLV passed on Reggie Theus, I definitely don't want him.

Nice guy but micro-managed wayyyyyyyyyyyyy tooooooooo much.

There are a dozen candidates ready to bring Illinois back.
Smart is the focus of the AD.
Theus is the choice of WWW from what I've heard and has been hanging out with the Chicago recruits of late.

Personally, I go with what WWW wants.

I don't want another white guy (lol... that's racial).

that's an unfair criticism

Of all the recruiting misses, Scheyer bothers me the least. Guy was Dukie from birth.

Somewhere, Weber probably throws McCamey under the bus for this.

Brad Stevens is one of the smartest coaches I can recall seeing. He's so good. I assume he wouldn't come but it would be silly to not try for him.

I'd rather stay away from WWW tbh. We've gotten recruits just fine with Jerrance on staff.

Jerrance is working with WWW from what I've heard.

AD confirms the buyout

$1.3M per year for the next 3 years... What a **** show by the last AD to have that contract signed recently given the way the program had been going.
