question on pitching.
i was doing some bp and i was working on a stronger push off the rubber, and finding that it helps to keep the pitches down in the zone. Should a harder push off affect the release point, for example could it cause you to release more in front of your body?

Not sure what you mean by more in front of your body. I'd say if you can get a good push off and stay low that is a good thing. What pitches do you throw?

I've never had a strong push off the rubber and I'm very upright at release. I don't have a lot of strength in my legs and would lose a ton of energy trying to pitch that low with such a push off. I've also always been wild high which doesn't surprise me. But it's just what feels comfortable for me and I did throw a 12-6 curve so I liked being able to really get on top of it and feel like I'm throwing it down.

I think they said Lincecum's push off the rubber lands him like 6'10" from the rubber which is absurd for a 5'10" guy. I saw a classic Nolan Ryan game recently and was amazed at how low he got and the push off he got. If you've got strong long legs and throwing like that won't wear you down go for it. Billy Wagner is another guy with thick legs who gets way down low and generates a lot of power that way.

wow! down 5-4, bottom 7, 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and we win our playoff game on a walkoff hit to deep right-center just out of the reach of the CF. such a sick way to stay alive. never been so happy to have practice tomorrow!

I finally recorded my swings. I have up to this point never seen my baseball swings on film (only like softball and wiffle ball and stuff). I'm surprised. I look way more upright than I feel and my swing looks slow as hell on camera. Also my right and left handed swings look a lot more similar than they feel. I didn't realize I have a tiny trigger step when swinging LH that I don't have from RH. Maybe I'll upload them, though I'm not making any contact. It's just swinging at nothing in my garage. Just imagining a pitch approaching. I've loaded 2 vids to photobucket. 1 of them is sideways though and I don't know how to rotate it.

put your swings up prohorn and I'll take a look at them.

I think our game will be broadcast live on Saturday, I'll try to find the link and post it here.

these HS playoffs could not get more ridiculous. a state title berth on the line goes 12 innings and called for darkness, so we have to drive an hour fifteen minutes back home just to wake up today and go back. for the top of the 13th, the top of our order is due up, and our SS and best player/leadoff hitter leads off with an absolute bomb to deep center to put us up 7-6 (he had led off the game yesterday with a homer to left too...pretty sick) and they can't score in the bottom half so we win and advance in districts + ship the auto berth to state tournament. sickest game I've ever been a part of.

we also survived an absurd bases loaded nobody out in the bottom of the eighth (hs games are 7 innings so we are in extras at this point). they execute a perfect squeeze, and our pitcher has no shot so tries to glove flip to the plate and our catcher barehand catches it just in time to get the out and save the game. next hitter lines to left, our LF makes a diving catch, gets back up and makes the throw home just in time to double the guy up at the plate and we survive the inning. seriously gross stuff...but we won!

We just swept our series today. I pitched a 9 inning 3 hit shut out, 1 walk, and hit a HR to deep right center against the wind. Had a lot of beers at the club house bar after the game and now time to relax and watch some MLB

that's awesome! where'd you go to school? we're good, but not the best in the state for sure, so we're gonna need a bit of luck to take down states. but one-and-done is all about the variance so we'll see.

not sure about the rest of you guys, but I never get to play. Rained out last week, rained out three weeks ago, played 2.5 inning last night before it got called for rain/lightning. Only had one at bat, hit a weak single to center that the 2B couldn't quite catch. Stole 2nd, got stranded. No plays in the field other than retrieving a double that was in the gap.

I am scheduled to start our next game though. Only thrown 3 innings thus far, so not sure how long I'll be able to go. Should be fun if the damn rain stays away.

Very spotty for us so far too. Only play on Sundays to begin with. Had 1 game, rainout, week off, game, week off. Zzzzzz.

You're playing in Asia? What's the league like? And forgive me if I am remembering wrong, it's Taiwan?

From Saturday's double header. 6/4/11 Eagles vs Arrows, we swept the series to secure 4th place. Had a rain delay followed by tightness in my hamstring which led to only pitching 6 innings. This upcoming weekend we play the top team in the country.

I have a herniated L4-L5 disc. I have not been playing much as a result. Though I went 3-for-4 with a walk in a win last weekend. Probably taking at least 3 weeks off.

Game 3 on Sunday

Started on the mound. 5.2IP 5H 3ER 0ER 2K 0BB

Very spotty defense once again. 3 Buckner balls by infielders and a dropped pop-up resulting in multiple innings having to get extra outs. And we failed to score for the second game in a row. Team is now 0-3 going into a doubleheader weekend where we are missing some key players.

0-3 at the plate, 2Ks and a 4-3. I stunk at the plate. Good thing I can pitch and play defense.

Also took a line shot off the calf while pitching. Managed to find the ball near the mound and get the guy out. Stayed in the game w minor pain. Nice bruise today.

First douchebag moment of the season when the other team's closer said "bye bye" to our #8 hitter who struck out in the bottom of last inning. We gave him a lot of stick from the dugout as a result and his skipper actually felt bad after. Gloating after K'ing a 44 year old guy in rec baseball? Get a life. I had struck him out earlier, guess I missed my chance.

ugh, really rough loss. tied 3-3 going to top 7 and state final four berth on the line, we get a big inning going and score 2 runs off of a single, IBB, and throwing error on a bunt, then we have runners on the corners with 1 out and we run into a freak double play off a hard hit liner. so up 2 going bottom 7, their 1st batter gets on via our SS/best player making a throwing error, then they single up the middle just barely missing out pitcher's glove for a sure double play, and instead it's 1st/2nd nobody out. then the next guy bunts and as our P is anticipating fielding it, it takes 2 hops forward and 1 backward giving him no shot at getting the force at 1st. 1 walk and 2 sac flies end the game and our season/state title hopes (and my career) 6-5 final.

hope you are currently winning.

I ended up not starting last night. Instead, I came in to start the 4th down 4-2. We ended up winning 10-7, as I went 4 and gave up 3 getting the win. My control is just awful right now. I probably threw at least 15 two seamers in the dirt. Somehow, I only walked one guy and didn't have any WP thanks to our catcher who blocks everything. My curve ball was up and got knocked around a lot, especially by LH hitters. I think I need to figure out my change to throw to lefties. I did get my sidearm arsenal going a little bit, so I'm going to incorporate that a bit more vs. RH hitters.

At the plate, I only had two PAs because we had 14 guys there and everyone hits in this league. Struck out looking on a pitch that had to be a foot outside and then hit a bullet right at the SS. I'm now 6-12 with 3 BBs and 2 HBPs on the year. I have struck out 4 times now, so I guess I need to protect more with two strikes with these umps who have rather liberal strike zones.

Games 4 and 5 Sunday.

Started the first game of the doubleheader. 5IP 4 H 6R 3ER 2BB 1K
Labored in the first couple innings but settled in pretty well. Tough defense again but that is getting to be a tired refrain. Didn't help myself with a couple bad throws trying to hold runners at first. Also did something I never have before: went into the wind-up position with a runner on 2B. Tried to correct and balked. LOL. That is what happens when you go to a party 3 hours away, wake up at 6AM and drive to a baseball game.

We lost 8-7. 0-2 at the plate with a walk a K and an F8. K'ed on ball four which keeps happening. How can I have good discipline until its 3-2? Need to work on that.

Won game 2 easily 11-1. Played RF and got no action as our pitcher threw a 2H. I didn't mind since I was dead tired and my arm needed the rest. 1-2 at the plate with a rope 1B and a BB, 1RBI 1R. Nice to get a win finally.

Played today despite my back. Went 2-for-4 with the go ahead 2 RBI double that I absolutely crushed. Splashed it against the fence; if it had 2 degrees more loft, it would have sailed out of there.

Should be 90-95% by this weekend, I hope.
