This is getting absurd. I tire late in the inning because I'm literally trying to get 9 outs, so I end up walking guys and I need to be pulled. The worst was when we had runners at 1st/2nd with 0 outs in a one run game in the 5th inning, and their last hitter up. I pointed at the 3b and said "you stay home," pointed at the SS and said "you cover 2nd," pointed at the 2b and said "you cover first," and pointed at the 1b and said "you charge, I take 3b side and everything at me unless the catcher gets it first."
lol'd in anticipation of failure

brings me back to first year of travel (13) when we borrowed a middle school classroom and ran through bunting situations, and god knows what else. we had a table buffet of 7-eleven snacks. and coming from the house league which was 80% scrubs, we had a set play 'APR' (anexation of puerto rico) = runner on third, player at the plate reaches first ideally on a walk, then attempts to get picked off to catch the defense more off-guard than if getting picked off/stealing play mid at-bat. even more retarded we had an audible play - 'reverse APR' to prepare as a defense. someone on that team ended up breaking their arm at a practice when a kid bodyslammed him during the end-of-practice ritual of playing kids vs the adults.

ive still been murdering the 75mph cage. today i walked up and a redneck was hitting with no helmet, getting laughed out of the cage by his friends. i walked in right after and redneck2 asked me if i was ready to show his buddy up, i said 'i'll try'. i walked out after mashing and 2 said 'i have nothing left to say' and i just say 'ok' and go about my business. im guessing most ppl step in to that cage thinking they can still hit and end up fail, if only because 40 y/o guys seem continually impressed for me not doing much. most of them have no clue about the game. I've given up interrupting their misguided coaching lessons with their kids...even one guy I was talking to, who was also telling his daughter she needed to time the ball like ME (?) or something, sent his daughter in to bunt for the duration of the token. proceeded to square her feet up to the mound and hold the bat flat at her waist. missed the majority of them, then stepped in himself and missed each one, looking like a tard in the process.

Re: Official 2p2ers Playing Baseball Thread

I hadnt enjoyed baseball as much as I did as a kid last summer and the first part of this summer. I figured out why. I sucked. Much more fun the last couple months now that I've hit about .500 over that stretch and my infield defense has improved a ton. Just needed 30 games or so to remember how to play after a 10 year break. reg season ends on Wed and then we'll have playoffs. After we win on Wed, we'll finish 13-5.

Re: Official 2p2ers Playing Baseball Thread

need a little bump as the season winds down. We're playing for 3rd place in our league next week as they decided to let the top two play a best of three series for the title instead of letting everyone play for it. Kind of dumb as we started 1-4 and finished like 10-2. We won our first playoff game last night with 2 in the bottom of the 7th. Exciting stuff.

slash line of .400/.509/.511

OPS over 1.000, woot.

Re: Official 2p2ers Playing Baseball Thread

Playoff game Sunday. We are 4th seed playing top seed, who beat us 3X in the regular season.

Skipper sent out the line-up already, with 4 pitchers none of which are me. I am pissed. I am not the 5th best pitcher on our team. Been sacrificing innings because our infield defense is so bad and every time I pitch we make multiple errors and give up runs. But then I see I am not even at SS or 3B. So pretty much f this skipper and this team. Favoring seniority over talent I guess but that is no consolation. There are plenty of teams that don't have good pitching or SS/3B and will easily take them and actually play them. Not to mention I will probably be batting 9th even though I lead the team in HR and probably SLG.

sounds awful. i had that last year until our "manager" hurt himself and quit. No one knows who I am so first game, I'm hitting like 9th. fine. Go 2 for 2 with a HBP or something. we score 1 run. next game, I'm hitting 12th.

Cue yearly off-season drama. Skipper is leaving town. Leaves the roster at 13 with a couple other older guys barely hanging on. On top of that I was thinking of moving to get more innings anyway. So if I do this team might not even be viable. Hate this part of every season.

Re: Official 2p2ers Playing Baseball Thread

First game next Sunday. Starting on the mound. Team got its roster issues sorted, thankfully.

Got a tune-up game in last weekend vs a sandlot gang of mostly guys in their 20s (my team is 38+). Went 2IP, 4K, 2H 0R. 1-2 with a K and a gap 2B. Also reached when I smoked one to 3B that he couldn't handle.

Bring on the season!

Lost game 1 today. Started on the mound. 2IP 2H 1BB 0R. Got 2 double plays so faced 7 batters...then got pulled. Skipper said he wanted to see more pitchers. The other guys gave up 11 runs.

1-3 at the plate. K, pop up to SS and RBI 2B that one hopped the fence in RC.

Re: Official 2p2ers Playing Baseball Thread

First games in a week. Jesus, that was faster than I thought.

Throwing 65-68% fastball strikes into a Command Trainer, which I can't find a picture of, but is basically a free-standing target that is the size of a small strike zone. Should lead to something like 70% strikes in a game situation.

Below 50% with breaking balls and changeups, but I'm only hoping to get that to 60% at best.

Velocity is OK. Upper 70's maybe 80 here and there. Slider consistency sucks ass but my changeup is good again for the first time since high school.

Arm is in shape but I am not. Oh well. Fortunately pitching doesn't require all that much athleticism.

ETA: Already hit a practice game bomb this year. Should rake plenty. BBCOR and wood bats this year though, no BESR ****. That'll be fine for me, but I am hoping offense goes down league-wide.

Won by forfeit on Sunday but we gave them a few and played anyway. 2IP 2H 4K 0BB 0R. Bases loaded in the first but ended it with a K. Struck out the side in the second

Hard line out to 3b in first AB. Then a single then 2 hard grounders to third in last two at bats. Got on both times. Not sure if hits or errors.
