Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

this thread was a relative success for baseball people, perhaps we can start a hockey thread for the winter season.

i am planning on playing for at least 2 teams this year in this league, although only one full-time. both teams will probably land in div 6 somewhere.

have been training relatively hard in the offseason, some with a coach, some on my own. my skating, stickhandling and shooting have all improved.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

My season starts on Oct 1. I'm at Byfuglien fitness level right now. I should be able to play passably since its just a pickup league, but I play net with no backup, and don't want to embarrass myself. Here's hoping the first game isn't a complete gongshow. I need to start a workout routine to get fit and playing better. Any ideas beyond SS? I know just that combined with stretching will help a ton. I'm thinking I should hit the bikes...

i've had better luck with HIIT than bikes. if you can do things like hill sprints, box jumps, etc. i think it's better than riding.

although i ride my bike several times a week for 5-10 miles, so maybe i just don't get the training effect from that.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

Well, I'm not really sure what you guys will be sharing...but I'll join in. I won't do sylar style reports because I honestly don't remember as much of the game as he seems to.

I'm playing in two leagues. I believe they both have 30 regular season games. I have my second game of the season for one league tonight, and the other league starts next Monday night.

I'm a defensive defenseman though, and 5 goals/league/season is good for me...so I don't know how many highlights I'll be able to share. Maybe i'll talk about my penalties. I'm good for 20min/league/season.

Our first game was Friday night. We had 8 skaters, they had 7. They lost one at some point through the game, but I missed it. I contributed with 2 minors, and ran their goalie over trying to cut the corner around an old slow defender after stepping up and intercepting a pass in the neutral zone. Also had a wrist shot from the slot just nick the shoulder of the goalie and go high earlier in the game.

Them only having 6 skaters was to their benefit imo. Because they only have 3 good ones on their roster imo, and all 3 of them were there. We won 3-2, and should easily beat them.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

As a forward I really like running hills. I've got steep ~800m hill just by my house and run up that bad boy a few times a week and it keeps me in pretty good shape (for a beer league)

As I mentioned in the regular season thread, I broke my collar bone playing earlier in the year after being hit (in a non checking league). Its been about 4.5 months and it still hasn't come right. I was playing a little but two weeks ago I got hit and thought I broke it again. Xray was negative, but its still sore when I move it in a certain way. Semi final this weekend, with half the team missing so I'm playing.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

since i can't grind online anymore i've stepped up my (roller) hockey game considerably! what else am i gonna do, play lolive poker?!

currently play 4 nights a week at this place www.lasvegasrollerhockey.com. two of the nights i play in both the upper and lower league, so i play 6-7 games/week all in all. never been in better shape in my life!

right handed shot lefty. current stick ccm u+10 (85 flex with the crazy ovi curve). back up reebook 3.0.3. also have a brand new bauer one60 (77 flex P92 curve) sitting in the garage that i'm looking to sell. bought one awhile ago, didn't like like it, broke it before the warranty expired, shipped it to bauer and they sent me a new one.

here's some bbv:

beat- last night we had monday lower league playoffs. the league is set up with two 4-team divisions (play divisional opponents twice and other division teams once for a 10 game regular season) , top 3 in each make the playoffs with the the #1 seed gets a bye into the semis. my team had the #1 seed with an 8-2 record in the reg season, we end up playing the #3 seed from our division who had a 6-3-1 record (yikes tough division!). we're up 3-1 late in the 3rd (games are 3x12min), they score with 2 1/2 min left to make it 3-2 , tie it up with 7 seconds to go and win it 3 min into OT. #closegamesout

brags
-currently pts leader in the upper tuesday league with 5g+9a through 4 games.
-finished 2nd in scoring in the past monday lower league with 19g+15a in 10 games
-best individual season i've had was a wedn lower 31g+11a in 10 games

variance
-bum lives in a backroom at the rink in exchange for keeping the place clean. during games he's often in the parking lot bumming for change. as if hockey isn't expensive enough already to play!

i would imagine madison would have a ton of hockey happening.

i remember a good deal of my games. i constantly replay in my head what i did or didn't do, but there's a lot that gets missed as well. frankly, working as a "scout" helps in that respect because you learn to grade every play and keep at least a simple tally.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

Joined a league out here in Philly. Playing Defense this year, played forward the last few but I'm in slightly better shape than the last few years. Had a solid assist with a touch flip pass up the boards to set up a 2-on-1 in our first game. I really need to re-familiarize myself with how to properly play defense when the puck is in our own zone.

Level of play in Philadelphia nowhere near that in Michigan, but I guess that's to be expected.

out of curiosity what advantages do you feel it has over ice hockey? (sounds awesome regardless)

it's four on four which means more open space and less defense (hence my inflated stats)! also our league (and most rollerhockey leagues from what i gather) play with no offsides or icing. so it's alil more of a free-for-all if that makes sense. obv helps being positionally sound, and the best teams in our leagues play good, solid hockey, but roller hockey in general puts somewhat more emphasis on individual skill than ice imo. that being said, it's still a team game and teams that play well together can and often does beat teams with more talented players but that doesn't have as good of a structured system.

Re: Official 2011-12 2p2ers playing hockey thread

Second game of the season. Was able to stay out of the box this game. Played solid imo. Make a couple nice tip passes to my centreman on break outs. We won 4-2. I should get an assist on our 4th goal which made it 4-1. I started the rush, the dman stepped up on me so I changed speeds and kinda got outside on him, then passed it in front and one of my wingers got a shot away and the other scored. I think I was +1, on for a goal against, on for a goal for, and just stepped off the ice for a goal for.
