Phillies have a collective 1.17 WHIP this season...Jesus. I suppose it doesn't matter if they that they've given up so many homers since no one was on base.

Solid =MVP now, nice.

And yes he deserves it.

Not even close IMO....

Have they determined a game 3 time yet? I mean game 3 isn't "if nec"...I can't see how they don't have a firm time yet.

Edit: just saw it's 7PM.

Phils at 7Pm...Eagles at 8:15.....GG liver....I feel sorry for the Monday Morning version of me.

I mean Gonzo had a great year, and if the Rockies made the playoffs...he might have gotten it.

Yeah the Phillies defense thing is interesting. It does seem good.

I'm not a stat guy, I don't know what the advanced metrics say about how good our defense actually is. It seems to me from the eye test that Polanco, Rollins, and Utley are very good at defense. Shane and Jayson are good-to-very-good. And Howard and Ibanez are bad.

It also seems like in the last two postseasons we've rolled double plays on every ball hit on the ground anywhere near an infielder. Hope that continues.

advanced metrics mostly agree with this assessment.

he did have a great year but even if the rockies made the playoffs votto would still easily deserve it over him. cargo benefits quite a bit from that joke of a ballpark he plays in*.

It doesn't really matter at all since they don't directly face each other (obviously). But it does show that the Phillies one big advantage over the Reds is isolated to starting pitching. Maybe in some intangible "experience" factor that sportscasters love to talk about.

Anyone see the ESPN "Experts" Predictions for the playoffs? Talk about a flight to safety...18 out of 27 picked Philly to win it all. Philly has to be the favorite but this seems too high.

Only two picked the Yanks which was surprisingly low.

Rays had 4, Giants 2, Rangers 1.

One expert picked the Reds to beat the Phils...then go on and beat the Braves and play the Yanks in the WS.

I don't like how much everyone on ESPN and all the Phillies fans I know are predicting an easy roll to the World Series and then Phils in 6 or whatever. Makes me nervous as ****. 5 game series' are scary, even when you have Halladay, Oswalt, Cole, Halladay, Oswalt.

Yeah, the one thing that is getting to me is how everybody and their mom are picking the Phils to win it all. Not exactly a good omen. Though the Phils have been there before and they have guys like Utley and Halladay who are always on an even keel. So it shouldn't go to their heads.

Ive been feeling the same nervousness as a fave, but then I think back to the last 4 years and I have felt the exact same way.

Ive also not been able to come up with a good solid reason why we dont at the very least advance to the NLCS, aside from "we have seen this Phils team slip into long slumps before".

How about this one:

"Baseball is a game of variance where even the best teams only win ~60% of their games."

The playoffs are a crap-shoot, but take solace in the fact that your team is using weighted dice and just hope for the best.

****! Polanco out hurt with a back injury that's just sort of popped up now. Obviously Valdez is a significant downgrade so this hurts. I really hope he gets better and we don't lose him for any significant length of time (at least we have lots of days off built in).

Yea this is pretty disappointing, heard nothing about this until today. I know he went for a cortisone shot in his elbow a few days ago but everything sounded good to go.
