pretty much every great player has had the benefit of playing with a great teammate, that's just how this tends to work

the few that don't go down in history like Dennis Maruk i guess

And Henrik Lundqvist. He pretty much just plays with trash all the time.

About five years ago people couldn't stop gushing about how gritty and defensively responsible those Rangers were. Girardi, Staal, Boyle, Callahan, oh how I hated that team

#Pens Evgeni Malkin is the first player to lead a postseason in both points (28) and PIM (53) since Maurice Richard in 1947.

Ryan Wilson‏ @GunnerStaal
If he was named Wendell Clark he would have earned all 15 first place votes for the Conn Smythe
loooooooool, so true

If Crosby wasn't Canadian he wouldn't have even 1 Conn Smythe win. Now we are going to hear about it forever and I've already seen it suggested that Crosby's legacy is greater than Lemieux's.

Usually when there is no clear winner they default to giving it to the leading scorer or a goalie but this time the voters defaulted to giving it to Crosby to make a better narrative for themselves to write about. Malkin gets no respect.

I think part of the reason Malkin is a bit underrated is that he's so often injured. It stops him from accumulating consistent eye-popping point totals year after year. Even with all his injuries, Crosby has played enough games to have 5 100-point seasons (and 3 more in the 80s). Malkin has only cracked 80 points 4 times in his career (including 3 straight in his first 3 years).

In a way, Crosby, Malkin and Ovi (along with some others) have been lucky to start their careers in that sweet spot between dead puck eras where scoring 100 points was expected from elite offensive talent. Nowadays it takes a megaelite season to get there, but that's what you get from letting goons run the league

In line with this thinking I'm 100% convinced that last year's CS was actually Phil's. He was the one single handedly winning games.

Kessel probably would have won the CS if he scored in the last game. Jones stonewalled him on several great scoring chances. Crosby made a great play to assist on Letang's winning goal and also assisted on the EN goal to seal the deal. The voting was really close so thats why i think Game 6 was the difference

I've extremely happy that these guys aren't being little bitches about going to the White House like the Warriors are. Even though ownership leans hard democrat, they're able to distinguish that going to the White House is a great way to top off winning a Cup, regardless of your political leans. A++

Maybe the Canadians are just going to support the Russians on the team. What % of the Penguins are even US citizens?

The whole white house thing doesn't make sense to me at all. James Harrison had it right back in 2009

Could be wrong here as I never looked into this at all. But off the top of my head Id guess the pens have one of the highest % of US born players in the league. They definitely have the most NCAA.
