It's an oft cited mark against Brodeur but I don't see it as such. Sure, having defense in front of you is great, but it also makes a high save percentage that much more impressive. It's easy to pull down a .925 facing 35-40 garbage shots a game compared to 20 quality shots a game. Offensive players had to work for their shots against the Devs and they were more precise for that reason. Also, add in the fact that overall his team's were pretty bad offensively and still won 3 cups, and his importance is beyond compare. Roy could win a cup with his eyes closed with some of the offenses he played with.
You also can't argue with his longevity. No goalie is ever gonna touch his games played record. And he was a madman with the stick. He singlehandedly forced the league to change a rule to nerf him, and he still managed to be a stickhandlimg force until he retired.
I think it's close but I have them both ahead of Hasek. Hasek revolutionised a play style, but so did Brodeur. He simply wasn't good enough long enough to top Marty and Roy.
