Yup, was fearing names like Larkin, Frk, Mantha, Ferraro

I would rather have 1% McEichel equity than get swept by the Habs lol

Man I never miss a chance for Boston-Montreal in the playoffs. I also like the idea of being "big dogs". Less pressure, seems ideal for the young guys like Pasta, Spooner, Ferlin, etc...

pop quiz hotshot:

- you have a 27yo UFA-to-be
- he is having a career year shooting 15.3% at evens
- his previous career best was a couple years back when he shot 11.5% at evens i think
- he is not, and never has really, played with exceptional linemates, just your average bottom-6 dude
- your team has very little SC equity, almost none

your best course of action is to?:

1. noting the high market prices and his current value, trade him away before the deadline
2. re-sign him based on a career season that he is unlikely to repeat
3. lose him for nothing in the summer because you can't afford to match the best offer

feel like i'm taking crazy pills...

So the George Strombosnoozefest experiment is blowing up on HF. Everyone saying he should have done Hometown Hockey to cut his chops instead of Ron. George may have done a decent job at it and in time learned the ropes. He is impressing no one and they see the same issues as me. I mean he was a late night talk show host with 0 sports experience asked to moderate and host at the highest level of hockey. I mean its preposterous really. It's not like he's a super slick announcer or anything. Ron is just better at every facet of the job and it's not close. The fact he tries to hard has been noticed by everyone and cringeworthy is the oft repeated word in his critiques.

Some gold,

- Strombo is worse than Clarkson.

- It's like replacing Bob Barker with Drew Carey (I lol'd)

- I'm sorry, but I think the lowest scum on Earth is a born Torontonian Habs fan. ()

- A muddy, mumbling, completely inappropriate voice. That alone should be enough to see him booted from his current role. All his interactions with players and other personalities seem forced and awkward. And although everyone says the right things, you just know there is resentment from many other capable people who put in the years IN THE WORLD OF HOCKEY BROADCASTING AND COMMENTARY.

and of course,

Matthias?

He has impressed me this year. I would prefer to keep him, but I agree with what you are saying.
How much do you think he will sign for? How much do you think he is worth?

in a year and a half tho?

seems risky as fawk for that many "prospects"

seriously no idea what he'll sign for*, but he's the kind of guy who likely has the ability to get way overpaid based on:

- being 27yo
- having good physical tools
- having the ability to play center
- going on a heater in a UFA contract year

i'd be scared to give him more than like $2.5m/year, but could easily see him getting offers in the 3-3.5 range. the Canucks won't have much wiggle room with a $69m cap, i'd really hate to see them blow it all on him, hoping he could reproduce this season.
(and especially considering his weak possession numbers)

really seems like the perfect guy to sell high on now, but they almost certainly won't. if they even realize how much of a good idea it is, i doubt they wanna try to explain it to the players and fans.

* - would have to do some research on comps, anyone else wanna take a shot at it?

yeah, UFA in 2016

guess the failsafe is they could just trade him next year and probably get a similar return, if they can't get him signed long-term

figured i'd just put it in the SSTT because who cares right?

The #bruins have acquired Brett Connolly from #TBLightning for two second-round picks. #NHLTrade
Boychuk for Connolly, well played

decent possession numbers, not much production from Connolly
seems unlikely that he's the answer
kinda funny that they're trading FOR a failed hyped prospect tho

The Jets put Klingberg down before they traded him to make room for Wheeler, who looked hobbled. I think they have to trade press box D to make room for a forward, or risk the waiver wire.

Maybe package 1 or 2 D+Frolik.

But signing Frolik would be better.

Trade seems possibly ok, I'm assuming Connolly has some kind of cheap, short term deal?

Seems like he should go on Bergeron's right wing, where he could potentially thrive (who doesn't?)

Something tells me he'll be a more reliable scorer with that duo than Reilly Smith at least.

not sure how good Coburn is anymore but this is a great trade for Flyers, they save up 3.5m in cap space, get a younger guy and 1st and 3rd

seems like exactly what they shouldve done

Strikes me as a great deal for the Flyers. They already have their long term #1 stud d man anyway.

Great trade for the Flyers but not awful for the Lightning either. Coburn is still a good player who was always criminally underrated by Philly fans. He's very good at breaking up opposing rushes and he's at his best when paired with someone who will do the bulk of the puck handling (i.e. Timonen). Tampa has several guys who fit that profile, I think he'll do well there.
