Re: NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season

ovechkin ran super hot on the PP and it was a 48 game season. i'd set the line at his future hart trophies at .5 and would need odds to bet the over.

Re: NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season

Ovechkin is a obv a good and talented player, but many feel like he's pretty overrated bc he does glamourous things like scoring goals and throwing hits, and doesn't do non-glamourous things like playing defense. many feel like this is the reason his team never succeeds in the playoffs, when the game gets harder, and every mistake is magnified. so yeah, him winning MVPs and stuff is pretty whatever. i guess he "deserved" it a couple times because he scored an awful lot of goals and stuff. and yeah, he might not age all that well as he loses speed and his body starts to break down from playing recklessly at times.

he's probably about fine value where he went here.

When he doesn't score they become rebounds and lead to assists.

when do hockey players start crumbling like catchers in baseball? I assume guys who play D typically age better. how about C/wingers.

72o,
lol don't even.
No more than A5 is for Crosby, or Murs for Ovie. And I wouldn't want a melon head or already peaked goal scorer to base my franchise around.
I just don't get the karlsson hate. Doughty is great but karlssons offensive prowess makes him a great defender as well

scoring peak is around 23/24 for forwards, but it's typically a pretty long decline. hockey players have surprisingly (for people who don't follow the sport closely) long careers.

Wow that really surprises me. I would've expect the scoring peak would be around 26-30.

I don't for a second think he's not a great player. But his all around game is not one I would base my franchise around.

Honestly, Karlsson puts up shot rates on D not seen since Ray Bourque. I'd be surprised if he ended his career less than +100.

Re: NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season

Stylistically and aesthetically, I agree with Nut. I'd prefer my franchise defenceman have a bit more sandpaper in him.

But statistically, I agree with T. The numbers don't lie - he makes his team so much better when he's on the ice.

There's more than one way to skin that cat from the back end. Lidstrom, Stevens, Chelios and MacInnis proved that for years.

Re: NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season

I said it before WRT Ovechkin, but out-possessing the other team is a form of defense. Peak Ovechkin clearly deserved his Harts (and at least one more) even if there are youtube clips of him floating in his own end. And a serious lol if you don't recognize this.

You just described why he's a great peak draft pick format and not necessarily a great dynasty pick.

However at 11 I think he's good value

I agree. I was responding to the general point about Karlsson needing to play better D, and the posts about whether Ovechkin deserved his previous Harts. In this draft, I don't think I'd have picked Ovechkin yet for the reasons T36 pointed out.

lol me.
I didn't even notice you had picked him. My only problem was people saying they would take Karlsson before Doughty. In your position, I would have thought long and hard about taking him. I definitely wanted a D, and don't know who I would take instead.

You're welcome to co-own with me if you want and if my original partner mflip doesn't show up. I don't know how much time I should give him before "hiring" a substitute

Also, what's the risk of me having to pick again in the next 9 hours or so? I/we pick again at 44, so I think it's pretty save to say, that the draft won't get that far before I'm awake again at about 1am EST right?

lol72, yet again. The whole post hurts my eyes because it's so bad. Yeah, he "deserved" it a couple of times, because those quotations are totally necessary. Noone else was close in 08 or 09, or 2010 for that matter. This year he ran hot, and obv just had to beat out an injured (super standard) Crosby, but I consider that variance balancing out for the 2010 debacle. You sound like Damien Cox.
