disagree on there being undrafteds as good as him. Those are the clear top 6 choices of this format, and only changes to the order i would make is that Karlsson is the first pick of the group and OEL before Weber (pacific division team fan so get to watch PHX bonus)

yeah i also agree that in a pure value standpoint, OEL > Weber but if you are going for an older team, Weber is fine, he should still be real excellent 7-8 years from now.

part of why i wanted to go D first round if i couldn't get one of those top top centers is that elite D stay good forever, it seems. either they retire because of injury, because they don't feel like playing, or they retire when chelios did. but i don't see why, absent concussions, that people like pronger, stevens, macinnis, lidstrom etc. all couldn't've played until they were 45 if they wanted to.

also when i looked for basic stat comparables to OEL, there are a ton every year since Bettman lockout #2

not so many between lockouts 1 & 2, and from like 94-2001, none of them really became HOF level players

so yeah, i'd kinda like to see him do it for a few years before i anoint him Lidstrom

I think they could have but risk of injury especially to joints (knees/shoulders) probably goes up as you get into that age range and they are probably just thinking they want to have a good rest of their life with their family and not be severely physically hindered the rest of their life. They see a ton of people and their friends mentally f-ed from concussions and they had great careers and don't need the money so they get out ahead while they can still enjoy golf and not develop ALS type symptoms at 50 from a severe concussion they got at 44 yo from [undrafted cheap-ass monsters]
