NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season NHL Dynasty Draft - 2013-2014 Season

Bill Nye's boys would easily lead the league in scoring. I'm not sure how that team isn't getting respect for a win now (with potential for solid future). I'm a big proponent of speed and agility over toughness and grit (see: Blackhawks 2 rangz over Philly and Boston's gay teams). They would put up some serious points. The defense isn't anything great, but they are young with some solid puck movers and most of the forwards are two-way players. I am a little biased because I'm really high on Jonathan Drouin and Bernier. Those two plus Stepan, Gagner and an aging Ovi could be a nice core that keeps them in the mix for the duration of the dynasty. A hot goalie and devistating power play could help this squad cheese a cup.

Their forward group is suspect. Their D is straight aidsin' it up.

Ay bros, been real busy the past week or so. I'll try and get up the picks I owe later tonight.

For now, here's one

Spoiler:

Erik Gustafsson - D - 25 years old

I know people have lives and things come up but bleh, 4 teams not being finished two days after the draft ends is lame and kinda ruins it for everybody else. We can't pursue any kind of voting or end game resolution until those picks are made, and with two of those guys not having picked in over a week I don't know when that's ever going to happen.

As fun as the actual draft is, I think discussing teams after they've been drafted can be a lot of fun too, as can the entire voting process. Questions like, which teams figure to be the best off right away, or 5 years down the road, etc. are interesting to consider, as is the most important question - who has the most overall cup equity? Unfortunately the momentum for people wanting to get involved in any kind of post-draft shenanigans tends to be relatively short-lived, at least with all the previous drafts we've done on here that's been the case, so it sucks to see that it's practically DOA at the front door.

In the future I think we need to have a few people in charge of making picks for inactive owners, because inevitably it seems to happen, even to generally active and reliable posters. I don't mean immediately afterwards, but if a few days go by and they haven't made their selections, a pick needs to be made - period. If you don't like this, then you should consider getting a co-owner so the picks made best reflect how you want your team to look.

I agree but I'm not sure there is a right answer. Maybe just cut the teams, throw the players back in the pool, and settle up as it is right now. idk there should be some closure though.

I had fun in this draft but each one has it's shelf life. Maybe if we did the draft closer to the season we might have a bit more talk.

I'm not sure if I would go that far but it was a bit like anarchy at some points...I think the biggest issues I saw were lack of PMs to the next person and a "what if" committee to sort **** out when it hits the fan.

What I would say is if a player gets skipped and hasn't made a selection in a while then see if someone who isn't actively participating in the draft want's to jump in and start picking. If the other person eventually comes back they can co-own together.

anyway, if you guys wanna try to do something with this thing, here's what i propose.

step 1: everyone post their lineup with the age of their players at the end of 2013 (so like on December 31st, 2013) in parenthesis. like so...

Team 72off

Nielsen (29) - Bergeron (28) - Perry (28)
Clowe (31) - M.Koivu (30) - St. Louis (38)
Ribeiro (33) - Kesler (29) - Hornqvist (26)

M.Staal (26) - Bieksa (32)
Seidenberg (32) - Boyle (37)
Pitkanen (30) - Wisniewski (29)

Schneider (27)

full team writeup

drafters who haven't completed picking their team by the time most/all have finished this task are out, sorry. once we are ready the teams will be put up for a vote, something like rank the top 5-10 teams each year, and maybe the bottom 5 (with everyone having to abstain from voting their own team). from there we can try to determine winners year by year.

sound good? if not, other ideas?
maybe some kind of bracket playoff format, but that'd take a lot more work, voting, etc, and i don't really know if ppl are still up for that at this point. or this tbh.

Taylor Hall (22) - Alex Galchenyuk (19) - Filip Forsberg (19)
Sven Bärtschi (21) - Aleksander Barkov (18) - Sebastian Collberg (19)
Sean Monahan (19) - Mikhail Grigorenko (19) - Alexander Khokhlachev (20)

Dougie Hamilton (20) - Luke Schenn (24)
Griffin Reinhart (19) - Hampus Lindholm (19)
Derrick Pouliot (19) - Duncan Siemens (20)

Jake Allen (23)

Don't feel like doing a full write-up right now, but all elite upside guys, plus Taylor Hall who is already a top 10 point scorer in the league & should lead the league in goals regularly in the future.

In a few years, this team will be ridiculously stacked & talented both offensively & defensively, and we won't be very good for a year or two, so will be able to add a couple more top-end talents.

Will be fun year 5 when all my guys are in their prime & dominating while other teams are aged, and even more fun in year 10 when my guys are all stars, and everyone else's stars are retired.

Couple other good young teams, but none have a scorer like Hall or the caliber of prospect.

Quick 25

As should be obvious, I built this team from the Goalie out. Quick was the goaltender I wanted from the beginning. Besides being a homer pick, he's had 2 outstanding playoff years. (plus RANGZ and Conn Smythz) Hope for 7-8 more years in which 4 or 5 are legitimate cup runs. Good goaltending is cheap and readily available. Young, proven, elite goaltending is not.

From there, D was my emphasis. Some were skeptical of using such an early pick on D, but 23 year old franchise D who can play all situations and have won Cups and Medalz just don't fall to pick 57. From there, youth and size were paramount, along with puck movement. A couple projects, but from that 6 I can legitimately hope to still have an all league top 4 in 8 years.

Center, of course, was the most important forward position. With JStaal, Stastny, Shaw, Sutter I think I have enough to match up with anyone. Some offense, some D, some grit, some agitation.

Wingers were a bottom priority. Hagelin as a young 2 way guy is the only one I took early. Stafford late hoping for a bounceback. A couple middling aged hopefuls in Holloway and Bourque. Some size and grit in King. Hopefully, wingers are as easy to obtain in the future as they are now.

2-Year Retrospective:

a few teams didn't finish, and a few didn't post nice final team writeups for me to quote here so i didn't bother killing myself digging around for them (if they want to do that now then go ahead), but we're 2 years into this so why not take a look at how we did?
