Ovechkin is a obv a good and talented player, but many feel like he's pretty overrated bc he does glamourous things like scoring goals and throwing hits, and doesn't do non-glamourous things like playing defense. many feel like this is the reason his team never succeeds in the playoffs, when the game gets harder, and every mistake is magnified. so yeah, him winning MVPs and stuff is pretty whatever. i guess he "deserved" it a couple times because he scored an awful lot of goals and stuff. and yeah, he might not age all that well as he loses speed and his body starts to break down from playing recklessly at times.

he's probably about fine value where he went here.

When he doesn't score they become rebounds and lead to assists.

I just don't get the karlsson hate. Doughty is great but karlssons offensive prowess makes him a great defender as well

scoring peak is around 23/24 for forwards, but it's typically a pretty long decline. hockey players have surprisingly (for people who don't follow the sport closely) long careers.

Honestly, Karlsson puts up shot rates on D not seen since Ray Bourque. I'd be surprised if he ended his career less than +100.

Stylistically and aesthetically, I agree with Nut. I'd prefer my franchise defenceman have a bit more sandpaper in him.

But statistically, I agree with T. The numbers don't lie - he makes his team so much better when he's on the ice.

There's more than one way to skin that cat from the back end. Lidstrom, Stevens, Chelios and MacInnis proved that for years.

I said it before WRT Ovechkin, but out-possessing the other team is a form of defense. Peak Ovechkin clearly deserved his Harts (and at least one more) even if there are youtube clips of him floating in his own end. And a serious lol if you don't recognize this.

I agree. I was responding to the general point about Karlsson needing to play better D, and the posts about whether Ovechkin deserved his previous Harts. In this draft, I don't think I'd have picked Ovechkin yet for the reasons T36 pointed out.

I didn't even notice you had picked him. My only problem was people saying they would take Karlsson before Doughty. In your position, I would have thought long and hard about taking him. I definitely wanted a D, and don't know who I would take instead.
