So players get older and worse and eventually retire right? They don't stay at their 2012/13 level? And is there a salary cap or salary doesn't matter? I'll try to contact mflip and hope we'll be ready in time to make our pick.

I'm pretty sure adding spoiler tags would just be a waste of everybody's time. You all know who I'm taking. The best player in the game today when healthy, the KID, Sidney Crosby.

I could author a lengthy write up, but why bother? There's only one argument to be made against him in this kind of format, and it all comes down to his health, which is admittedly a very real concern. What I'll say though, is that if you objectively look at the injuries that have sidelined him over the last few years, you'll see that he's simply had rotten luck. Without fluke injuries setting him back, he'd have been a runaway Hart winner in two of the last three seasons, and in 09-10 he had a very strong case as well. Despite the injuries, he's come back strong every single time and shown next to nothing in the way of regression. And again, I am confident given the random nature of his injuries that he is not as significant of a health risk as many would lead you to believe. He almost never takes direct shots anywhere, especially in open ice, and his freakishly strong lower body combined with his elusiveness and pure skating ability make him very difficult for defenseman to target along the boards.

I'm sure Murs will roll his eyes when I bring this up but I will anyways because it's absolutely a valid point. Crosby has played most of his career with mediocre wingers 5v5. Which isn't to say that he would have put up otherworldly numbers with star talent flanking him every shift, but it does allow me to focus more on other aspects of my team knowing that Crosby's line will be rolling whether I have stars alongside him or not as long as his wingers compliment his up-tempo style.

sweet found the thread.

So effectively if the dead period hits and it's my pick, we wait until 10am for me to give my pick? That means my pick is due right at 10am or I lose it? Just not clear on that. if I miss my pick I can jump in as soon as I'm ready between other picks?

Typically how long does 1 round take in these?

With the 3rd overall pick, Team Nut is proud to take a player who has won at the highest levels. Gold Medal. Stanley Cup. And he's only 23 years old.

Spoiler:

Drew Doughty

Round 1, Pick 5

Evgeni Malkin, C

This was a tough choice but I can't pass up Geno. He's a bit older than I like (will be 27 during this season) but has shown the ability to be the best player in the NHL and should age well.

In a 5 year Dynasty, I'd have to imagine that even at 28-29+ year old you've got ample good years left. So ya Geno pick is super solid.

In a 10 year dynasty how are we viewing players who figure to retire within, say, 5 years? Do they have any value whatsoever?

Players are eligible if they played in the NHL in 2012-2013. Players who were injured for the duration of the season are eligible. Players who left for different leagues are not. Feel free to PM me if you are unclear on a player's eligibility.
So disregard this?
