and speaking of which, the Canucks have a road b2b with the Avs & Coyotes = fun times in gamboooooling!

related notes:

- the Avs are the worst home team in the league by a mile, half as many wins as the next worst teams (Coyotes, Devils, Wangz)
- the Canucks are one of the worst road teams in the league, so these 2 games are those fun resistible force vs movable object ones
- Canucks actually played a good road game against the excellent Blackhawks the other day, and i think in the few games before that too, but i can't even remember for sure lol
- the Canucks have been off since Sunday
- Matt Duchene will be back in the lineup for the Avs tonight
- the Canucks surprised me by going with Markstrom tonight and Miller tomorrow most likely, i assumed it'd be the other way around, but actually the 2 goalies are far closer than i thought, and Markstrom has been much better on the road this season, so ... interesting!
- the Avs are riding a 4-game home losing streak, and are 1-8-1 in their last 10 ... but even the worst teams win sometimes, and this is kind of a great spot for that, so...
- the Coyotes are riding a 2-game home winning streak, having defeated the Florida teams
- Shane Doan is questionable for tomorrow
- the Coyotes should be well rested for this game, 2 full days off sitting at home vs a team who played in Denver the night before

conclusion: if you like to live dangerously, bet the Canucks tonight and Coyotes tomorrow, but beware of the tVC's love of playing more than 60 minutes per night, though you're all probably way better off ignoring all of this and just not wagering, because it definitely won't play out like i predict it will, it just never seems to with this team

The old can't bet on either team conundrum.

They are bad, but the schedule has been a dream for them. Always is.

For all the whining they've done for years about travel, they constantly get teams coming in playing their 3rd game in 4 nights (after CGY and EDM). Either that or the team comes to Vancouver first (three time zones away usually) and is playing at 10pm EST (on their body clock).

It shows when they go on the road in the west. No hiding there.

I wonder how long before they fire or get Joe Sakic to quit as GM?

but it's gone from 2-0 to 2-2 because the Canucks also really suck, and shocker, they look headed for overtime

i'll just call it now, an OT/SO loss is in the cards tomorrow

sigh, I did plus money on a home team against the canucks, how could I pass it up?

I just didn't factor in that the home team might have the most WIL in the entire NHL. Shouldn't the avs be better? I thought they had a lot of young talent coming into the season and they are just embarrassing.

Although, I heard from a friend of a friend who knows some players in the NHL that the avs locker room is in complete disarray so maybe that is playing a large role

it shouldn't count when it's the red wings on a b2b. that just isn't fair

Locker room disarray is common on teams that are in last place. The team was never that good and rode a massive PDO to a power record, now those players are forced to face the reality of bad possession = bad results, and young players who suffer can really collapse and for a long time. Trust me, I'm an Oilers fan and I know what I'm talking about.

Colorado needs to just scorch the earth. Keep Varlamov, Ratanen, McKinnon, Duchene, Barrie, and dump the rest. Sounds by all reports that this is what they plan to do, but they are holding out for more. I wouldn't be surprised to see major deadline moves from them that leave their team even more devastated than at present.

That Duchene was most likely to go

Should keep Pickard > Varly imo. Also Barrie seems awful. Would not mind Johnson sticking around.

1st period report
score: Arizona 0 - 0 Vancouver
shots: Arizona 7 - 1 Vancouver

this is atrocious

Nesterov trade pretty weird for Montreal, he definitely doesn't seem like a MIKE player

he creates goals (2nd on Tampa behind Kucherov), but can't defend (worst on the team)

Nesterov: 3.09 GF/60, 2.88 GA/60 (last 3 years)

for comparison

Weber: 2.28 GF/60, 2.08 GA/60 (2 years before trade)
Spoiler:
and of course

Subban: 2.85 GF/60, 2.16 GA/60 (2 years before trade)

also PEOPLE ARE SAYING that Nesterov might BOLT for the KHL after this season, though his agent denies that

regardless, pretty sure MIKE is going to hate him, and his position looks relatively secure again, so ... huh?

I've never ever heard of Racine so it's not like we gave up much for Nester

If anything it shores up our blueline more to make room for a Beaulieu or maybe Juulsen trade

Could be right on the goalies. Barrie however is looking bad due to bad PDO (96.7) and probably isn't that motivated because he wants out. Duchene probably will be traded, and it will be a mistake.

Just read on twitter that it took the nackz over 28 minutes to record their first SOG? That's actually amazing

But did Nogambol win or not on the Nackz tonight? That is the question and only reason to even bother paying attention to that team anymore.

Spoiler:
BAAAAZINGA !!

Meh I'm just bitter because we just lost our first regulation game on the road since Nov. 30th. No that is not a typo.

I had the game on the radio, what drama!

1.5 hour all-star interview and festivities show tonight
then 1.5 hours of the top-100 players of all-time list

first always has unintentional comedy value, especially because some of the players will probably be drunk
actually, the 2nd has the same potential, but because the list will almost certainly be awful

and it was Burrows on the PK clearing the puck from his own blueline lol

also funny that the lone shot there were credited for in the 1st got rescinded after further inspection

against a bottom-3 team in the league...

(still an almost zero chance that the morans in charge realize HOLY **** WE ****ING SUCK)
