Re: NFL Wildcard Round Discussion Thread

might as well fire Caldwell and get the best possible deal you can with picks for Peyton and draft Luck at this point

Re: NFL Wildcard Round Discussion Thread

Luck has to be the plan unless the Colts think they have legit title chances the next 2-3 years. I think Luck + whatever they get from Peyton will let them be viable in 2-3 years for a long time. Wayne, Freeney are going to likely be gone. They don't have many good, young pieces right now. I guess they could trade the pick and try to make a run but I don't think it's all that viable.

He most likely does. But it's not up to him. Colts probably need to think long term. Peyton is the GOAT but they don't have the pieces right now. They could probably win 10-11 games next year with him in and some pieces coming back and the whatever they get for the #1.

I apologize for that. I should have looked at Hillis as well when I was looking at all the Browns stuff.
ya if anything, one could argue hillis should be a 3rd down back and give the main duty to someone else. i tend to think hillis is good enough as a runner to get a large chunk of carries.

wonder where he ends up, wouldnt be surprised if its down 71 in cinci.

Which side wanted to keep Manning as a Colt for the remainder of his career? And which side wanted to draft Luck and deal Manning for maximum value? Or, is there some middle which was disagreed on?

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay talks quarterbacks... (12/22/11)

Quote:
On if Manning will return to the Colts:
“If the situation is where he is back and he’s healthy, I see him coming back and playing here. There is a lot of speculation about the draft pick and all of those sorts of things. What people have to realize is this: the likes of a Peyton Manning to be seen again is not coming – if ever – for a very, very long time. You’re not going to go into this draft or the next draft and get another Peyton Manning. What he has done to revolutionize the game in terms of running the offense, his dominance at the position, I put him at the very top, and if you check with Rex Ryan or Bill Belichick they’d agree with me. The hope is that his health is in the position where he could return again. That remains uncertain and that’s something like I said is first and foremost on my mind.”

On Manning returning and the team drafting a quarterback:
“I don’t see that being the issue; I paid him $26 million this year – he didn’t play. I knew it was an iffy situation going in. In terms of if he’s healthy and if he’s ready to play, I see him back with us. The draft will be what the draft is; there are a lot of situations that can unfold from here. If there is a great young quarterback there, we wouldn’t hesitate to take him.”

I think it's incredible that the 3 clear vegas favorites to win the SB (the 3 "best" teams in the league) are 1st/2nd/3rd respectively in pass offense and 32nd/31st/30th respectively in pass defense.

Just shows you what this league has become.

Shard isn't that great but a decent loss. I guess Steeler fans will have a laundry list of excuses if they Steelers falter this year in the playoffs.

Huge difference there. And futures say NFC route is tougher as well. Your point is showing how the Saints are much better than any AFC opponent.

GB seems significantly better than NE due to those odds.

Since Saints are 3 seed and the difference is gigantic its pretty clear futures value NO > NE as well.. probalby by a reasonable margin since the odds are so close and the seeds are worth so much.

NE seems like a distant 3rd, but a huge AFC favorite.

what odds were you looking at btw? here is what I see on bookmaker, odds to win SB

Packers +155
Patriots +210
Ravens +400
Saints +500
Steelers +700
49'ers +775

I apologize. I was going based on memory which I thought was pretty strong. I know for sure that a lot of people where pretty high on Cleveland this offeseason and thought Cincy to be ****, myself included.

Pretty neat. I Don't trust the Pats D nearly enough. To go down 21-0 (iirc) 2 straight weeks to pretty bad teams? Can't do that in the playoffs vs teams that don't blow dick.

I wonder if cleaning house in Indy has something to do with paying Manning 26 million to sit on the sidelines all year?

Caldwell will def be fired. What reason would the new GM have to keep him?
