hiring the Hawks Oline coach would at least be a break from the normal "hire coordinator whose unit had a good year" framework, which often amounts to just playing the hot hand

can the falcons offensive coordinator bring Matt Ryan and Julio with him

would love to see blaine gabbert or Kaep trying to run some of those plays

why would Shanihan want to leave a great situation now - possibly one of the great offensive teams ever with him as the architect - for the QB-less 49ers? He's pretty young, could ride out the ATL situation for another 2-3 years. There will always be coaching chances avalaible - not like a HC opening is a rarity.

the most confusing question I have is why the Seahawks decided to stop destroying the draft. how do they have a WOAT oline if they are so good at drafting? strange!

General football question. I am looking at Dan Marino's career rushing stats and he had 12 seasons where he had negative yards rushing.

Did they just record sacks as negative rushing yards back then? When did it change?

Can't find this anywhere.

Making $4M+/year as a head coach of the 29ers beats making $750k/yr or whatever he's making as a coordinator. Also, NFL teams can rise and fall quick so there's no telling what their prospects will look like two years from now. Finally, you can't become a failed retread and get a second or third head coaching gig without taking the first job.

Seems like if you are an in-demand assistant that it is hard to turn down a job as a HC. Like Huey Jackson with the Browns. What if he declines that job and then Dalton sucks the next year or Green gets hurt? All of a sudden some new flavor of the month is in demand over him.

Extremely shortsighted post.

Even if they hit a home run with Watson or trubinsky the niners are so far away from relevance and so erratic that agreeing to be their HC especially without a GM in place isn't exactly a given +EV career move

9 times out of 10 I agree you gotta strike while the iron's hot but the 10th time you have a franchise that combines both the erratic nature of haslem but the spectacular cheapness of mike brown. There is no guarantee whatsoever shanahan would get a 2nd year and this roster is going to have 0-16 equity

His contract will pay him for 3-4 years even if he's not around past the first season unless he pulls a Lane Kiffin and finds a way to get fired for cause. Taking $10-15M guaranteed over 3-4 years when you're making $400-750k/year or whatever is a literal no brainer especially since he should be able to easily go back to a coordinator position if it doesn't work out.

Not many head coaching vacancies left. Pretty much always have to take it even if its the Browns and hope for the best.

eh, coming back in the nfc west is doable, seattle has no OL + the glue of their D is coming off injury (if you don't have a back end middle of field stud (either S/MLB), cover 2/3 (MLB/S) is a **** defense to run [ATTENTION JAGS!!!]). (jags D isn't that bad, but they don't have the personnel as their stud is a blanket cover CB) The cards appear to be falling apart, and the other team you swept last year. Sure the 9ers don't have much, but it's not dire at all. Chicago is in a worse spot with godgers winning games by himself/lions being mediocre instead of LOL/and a young vikings team who has a lot of good/emerging players and really still should've won the division with like one guy on the OL and obv Cleveland b/c it's the browns and steelers/ravens/bungles are in their division. Cle has draft picks to draft whoever PFF likes that everyone else doesn't again. Those guys all didn't do much last year fwiw. and the jags b/c it's the jags--I appreciate the loyalty/lack of knee jerk fire everybody; but boy are they going too far with that.

SF hiring shanahan on a 5 yr deal and fire him after year 1 with that roster would be quite the torching of $ and it wouldn't even be lols b/c it's just "well that's the 9ers"

What? There are tons of other factors that go into home/away splits that have nothing to do with dome or no dome.

If you're going to look at splits, look at dome/outdoor splits where pretty much every qb performs better indoors. This isn't exactly a new concept.

I remember a quote from trestman's book (don't read it) about bill walsh telling him he was an idiot for not taking a HC job (and that was going from NFL OC to college). You get offered a HC job, you take it. I mean yeah, that one guy on the raiders a little while ago (aha, dennis allen) had no f'ing chance to succeed and a few other guys but still, this, you take it.

Do you even get guaranteed money as a coordinator? Seems like many of them get cast aside at will.

Just the fact you can get fired and still a cash a huge paycheck for a couple years is real nice.

Surely you've read a bit about Tom Cable's bizarre OL personnel philosophy by now.

Yeah I'm mostly just poking some fun at all the 12's who tried to convince years ago that the Seahawks were better than everybody else at drafting... And not just running hot

So the Bills are apparently choosing between Brad Childress and Greg Olsen for OC??? That can't be good.

It is interesting how teams just get on runs drafting and then regress to the mean.

Chargers got on a really nice run from like '01-06

9ers right after that.

Chargers had a couple years there where they probably had the most talented roster top to bottom but couldn't cash in. Some guys have it (Flacco, Eli Manning) and some QBs don't.

Oh man that stunning year when they were the top ranked offense and defense but didn't make the playoffs. And now they move. Chargers fans have it rough.
