Is this the thread being used for draft talk/speculation?

Bunch of unimportant people signing (e.g. Justin Hunter to the Steelers), people planning on making decisions today (Hightower), a bunch of dumb news about who is visiting where...pretty much this is the only news this morning I found worth reporting, & only because of the wording:

Saints Kicked The Tires On Veteran WR Andrew Hawkins, But Aren’t Very Interested

Here's the update on that stuff...

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported a few days ago that the Eagles offered the Saints veteran S Malcolm Jenkins, a third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick for WR Brandin Cooks. However, the Saints wanted Jenkins and a second-round pick instead.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter explained that the Saints asked for Jenkins, but the Eagles never really wanted to part with him.

“Let me explain to you what happened there,” Schefter told 97.5 The Fanatic, via BleedingGreenNation.com. “The Saints wanted Malcolm Jenkins. The Eagles did not want to give up Malcolm Jenkins, OK? So did his name comes up in those talks? Yes, it did. It came up driven from the Saints. The Eagles did not want to part with Malcolm Jenkins.”

“Now, if a trade eventually got worked out, which it never did, for Philadelphia’s standpoint . . . any Brandin Cooks deal in Philadelphia was going to have to involve Malcolm Jenkins. And Philly just wasn’t willing to go to where it was to offer enough to get Brandin Cooks. They just did not want to part with Malcolm Jenkins. But yes, New Orleans wanted him, that’s correct.”

Florio spoke to a league source who explained Schefter’s suggestion that Jenkins wasn’t offered to the Saints is likely due to the Eagles now wanting to create the impression Jenkins wasn’t offered in the deal to minimize any potential frustration or confusion from Jenkins and the rest of the team.
Still unclear if your house wager was a sound one or not.

The #Patriots and star LB @zeus30hightower reach a deal for 4 years, $43.5M, $19M guaranteed, per @_sportstrust.
Good low guarantee, just in case he doesn't age well.

The Saints let Malcolm Jenkins walk, and he played much better in Philly than in New Orleans, so of course they would try to trade back for him at his newly inflated value

The Jacksonville Jaguars notched one of the biggest coups in NFL free agency by signing defensive lineman Calais Campbell, a two-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Arizona Cardinals. Now, one would think that going from one of the league’s more successful franchises to one of its sorriest would take a lot of convincing on the Jaguars’ part, either by new executive vice president Tom Coughlin or first-year coach Doug Marrone.

But in an interview with MMQB’s Robert Klemko, Campbell said he talked to neither of those very important people within the Jaguars organization before making his decision.
Quote:
Speaking of schemes, the Jaguars will employ a 4-3 set as opposed to the Cardinals’ 3-4, so Campbell is willingly wading into that without consulting the two people who likely have the best idea on what role he will play.

What could possibly go wrong?
NFL players, man

The cardinals are one of the NFL more successful franchises? How??

Well, since 2013 or so.

I hope the Jags draft Jonathan Allen so they can have three different guys whose optimal position is a 3-4 5-tech yet be running a 4-3.

4-3/3-4 differences are a fair bit overrated. It doesn't impact calais that much if at all. He should still have the same role.

Something that's bugged me for a while,

Could someone smarter than me please explain the difference between 1-, 3-, 5-, and 9- technique defensive tackles?

I know for some weird reason that they're all odd numbers, but that's about it.

Some randoms re-signed with their teams, & the Bills signed Andre Holmes for 3/$4.5m, but this one was kind of interesting to me...

Vikings sign Adam Thielen to a 3 year deal with $11m of guarantees...which will be worth somewhere between $17m & $27m depending on whether he hits various bonuses which I have no idea what they are for. He was an RFA.

It's about where they line up. 1 tech is directly over the center, 2 tech is in between the center and guard, 3 tech is over a guard, and so on. Where you line up determines your gap responsibility and any odd number means you have two gaps to cover while even techs are lined up in a gap and are only responsible for that single gap.

The idea here is correct, but your description of where the technique plays is not.

Well oops. I forgot there's a zero tech which starts the process over the center instead of 1 tech. So the even numbers have two gap responsibility instead of the odd number techs.

NFL announces the Bills signed WR Andre Holmes and publishes the offer sheet.

Both the Bills and Holmes go, "nah, didn't happen."

This **** only happens to the Bills.

Now other teams can see what the offer to Holmes was and counter.

Murray signs a 1 year with the Vikes. Pretty much ending any chance AP goes back there on the cheap.

Revis might find a team before AP.

It's apparently a 3 year deal that can be voided after 1.

AP rumored to Lions or Raiders most recently.
