Tom Brady looks like prime Michael Vick compared to Marino's mobility though early in Marino's career before his yearly off season knee surgeries turned him into a complete statue he was amazingly elusive from within the pocket. He was like a Kung Fu master with his ability to make a single step and avoid a sack.

I think the talent really started to bottom out during the last few years of the A.J. Smith era. They're rebuilding fairly well now, though injuries hit them hard this year. Two of their projected top three receivers before the end of week 1... their top two cornerbacks and the one they drafted in round 3 this year... two of their four starting LBs... and they were down to street free agents who'd been cut from other teams at running back by the end of the year.

Dunno if they can stay healthy or how long Rivers' window is, but they are starting to build something again if they can put it all together.

Is Blaine Gabbert even in the NFL next year?

blaine isn't awful--he's a bench caliber player but that's it. he shouldn't be starting for any team for an entire season. i don't like the guy but the rest of the 9er org sucks so it's tough to tell just how bad he is.

seahawks, like every team, ran great and just got insanely lucky for a while and are still good at drafting just not god like. they probably could have been competing for an NFCC game if Thomas was healthy.

If everyone stays healthy and Rivers doesn't fall off they are gonna be scary next year, will be interesting to see the odds for that division.

should be more concerning for the Seahawks that with all the money they're spending on defense, they literally couldn't get a stop or turnover the other day

probably fair to give such a young offensive line a little time before writing them off completely, but yeah it'll likely be an area that they'll continue to address, for good reason

No shame in getting destroyed by ATL IMO. That offense is insane

I haven't looked too closely, but it seems they are going with something like Stars and Scrubs. They have a ton of stars getting paid, which is fine (and ideal) if you stay healthy and draft really well / sign cheap FA so you have a passable roster elsewhere. if not, you end up as just another good team despite the fact your roster has a bunch of studs, or if you lose an Earl Thomas, you're screwed

Greg Roman was fired by the Bills, Greg Olson was fired by the Jags

Russell Wilson played for almost no money and was a top 10 QB in the league. Not hard to see why they were so good before the bill came due.

It seems like they knew O line was gonna be a problem and tried to address it in the draft and early results dont look too promising.
They also used their first-round pick on an offensive lineman.

The NFL has too much Gregpotism in its offensive coaching circles.

Seattle's OL drafting since 12
12 a 7th on JR Sweezy, who despite being bad at pass blocking outperformed his draft round pretty well (that draft they got a F for--had 5 hits, lol draft grades)
another 7th they got a year out of
13 a 7th who never got off the PS
2014,a 2nd on Justin Britt to be an OT, he's now their starting C
a 6th who lasted one day due to failing physical from a rare heart condition (they still paid his full 100k bonus, so many teams would not have...)
2015
traded starting C who was good and their first for jimmy graham
spent a 4th on a guard who was cut that september 3rd (ah, the old vince mayle move) who's still kicking around on the dolphins PS/futures now but he's probably done by next september.
4th comp rounder on guard mike glowinski, starting LG
6th rounder on a DT they tried to move to OL, who didn't last a year there and is a colt... playing DT

2016 spent a first rounder on Ifedi, who was supposed to be their starting tackle, instead he's their RG.
a 3rd on a guard who's backing up the left side.
a 6th who's the backup center

They certainly tried to fix it, that's a fair amount of draft capital. We'll see if any of them can turn into something. They appear to have no f'ing idea how to evaluate tackles at least.

I just turned on NFL Network and there's a show on called "Good Morning Football." Just a bunch of people sitting around a table, drinking coffee and talking handegg.

In the bottom left corner of the screen is "@GMFB".

You know you are on the internet too much when your first interpretation of that is that it means "Give Me a ****ing Break."

That's actually not a bad name for one of these talking head shows.

Probably because they were the beneficiaries of short-term positive variance. We like to say X team is so good at drafting and Y is terrible. I think Y being terrible is much more true than X being so good. (Y is obviously the Browns.)

Even the Patriots are mediocre drafters. They just realize that quantity > quality when it comes to the draft. Take as many shots as you can. They are very good at picking up surplus value by trading down.

I don't think a Seahawk has been busted for either PEDs or substance abuse since 2013, but I guess that's just proof that ROG is helping them hide it.
