Re: NFL Modern Era Draft: Discussion Thread

Just a heads up that I have homecoming this weekend, so if my pick doesn't get to me tonight I might have to make you guys wait tomorrow during the afternoon.

I'll PM a list of a couple of guys to Assani or something.

I couldn't figure out what position or what scheme Seau played... I think maybe everything from the information I could gather.

Re: NFL Modern Era Draft: Discussion Thread

Round 2, Pick #43 Overall, Junior Seau, OLB

Awards & Accolades for Junior Seau

- 12-Time Pro Bowler (1991-2002)
- 6-Time All Pro (1992-1994, 1996, 1998, 2000)
- 1994 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year
- Top 10 All Time in Games Started

With the second pick for our team, me and wiper are going with Junior Seau.

While he has been a mediocre (at best) player over the last few years and is a shining example of a guy who played a few years too long, Seau will go down as one of the best LB's in NFL history for his play with San Diego early in his career. Seau rattled off 12 straight pro bowls which is tied for the third longest all time behind Bruce Matthews (14), Reggie White (13), and Randal McDaniel (12).

One nice thing about Seau is the versatility that he brings to the table. In his career, it appears as if Seau played both ILB in a 3-4 defensive scheme and OLB in a 4-3 defensive scheme. Since our first round pick (Bruce Smith) did basically the same thing this allows us to play either a 3-4 or a 4-3 depending on how the rest of the draft goes.

For this draft, Seau will be placed at his age 27 season (1996). In 1996, Seau was a first team All Pro with 7.0 sacks, 2 INT's, 1 FF, 3 FR, and 110 tackles.

Team so far:

DE - Bruce Smith
LB - Junior Seau

I almost forgot you had Bruce Smith too. I like this pairing > Boselli/Allen. Or mine.

Aaaaaand there go the top two guys on my draft board. Goddammit. Both great picks, I'm honestly a bit surprised these two slipped as far as they did.

It's funny because for my pick I was debating between 5 guys like six or seven picks ago. The list was Boselli, Roaf, Brooks, Seau, and Player X. Once Roaf and Boselli went I was focusing on Brooks or Seau mainly and you made the choice easier for me.

Can anyone confirm this(especially Needle)?

So if I take a LT and move him to RT, nobody would mark me down for that?
Or if I take a LG and move him to RG or vise versa?

All 3 are very very good imo, but I still think that Boselli/Allen is the best of the entire draft.

I actually think it may have been better to get a late 1st round pick in this draft. I also feel more strongly than ever that teams that selected QBs early won't be nearly as good as people think, as teams who passed on them will be able to get different QBs who are only marginally worse whereas you simply can't get a combo like Boselli/Allen or anything remotely close to it when you draft them late.
