Re: NFL Modern Era Draft: Discussion Thread

sigh

can someone delete this pick and the pick in the other thread, misread the rules and thought you could take someone who just played in a game after 1986

didnt realizee there was a cutoff for games played before 1980

What? I'm pretty sure there's *not*. Slater is a valid pick- I even asked someone to delete Slater's name from an earlier post.

This is just wrong. It's been stated repeatedly that
you can draft *anyone* who's played after 1986. And you posted it in the wrong thread, which put me on tilt because I thought there was a new pick up.

He could probably play OLB in a 3-4.

Actually just looked it up and he won his DPOY award as an OLB in a hybrid 4-3/3-4 scheme, so you should be fine with him as an end in the 4-3 or an OLB in the 3-4.

Roger Maris FTW
Dale Murphy FTW.

ZACH THOMAS - MLB

I struggled with this pick for a while, there are tons of guys that I thought about, but I'm taking this pick based on need, value, and also intangibles like leadership. With Zach Thomas, I feel like I get one of the last few guys that can truly be the cornerstone of a defense. He provides excellent defense against the run as well as adequate pass coverage. He is also the captain of a defense, and an outstanding leader (and I'm not just saying this cause he's white). I'm taking him in his 2002 season at the age of 29. In that season he put up 101 tackles, had one pick, and led the Dolphins to an AFC East Title.

-7x Pro Bowl selection
-5 time first team All-Pro
-2x NFL Alumni Association Linebacker of the Year
-3x Dolphins Leadership Award

Team so far

OT- Jonathan Ogden
MLB- Zach Thomas
.

Re: NFL Modern Era Draft: Discussion Thread

The only argument against Thomas is as to whether a MLB is the best way to start anchoring a defense. Hell of a player though.
