Dominic - I agree that the Bills came out fine in the trade with the Chiefs. It was fair compensation - neither team ripped the other one off. Going by the famous Jimmy Johnson trade value chart, which per a Ringer article I read a few days ago is still widely used, the Bills got a bit under fair value but close enough. And being the team trading down is the side you generally want to be on. The Chiefs themselves traded down out of the first last year and made their first pick in the 2nd round (ultra baller Chris Jones).

Dwtezel - yes the Chiefs are a good team and an immediate upgrade at a position of need at #27 would have been nice. But that's why, IMO, the centerpiece of the trade was next year's 1st and not this year's 2nd and maybe more. And the 3rd they gave up was one of two so they still have a surplus of draft capital now to address those positions of need. Primarily that would be ILB and RB, positions that lend themselves quite nicely to addressing in the 2nd and beyond. Overall they are quite deep and talented.

Meanwhile, Alex Smith is 33 and has just two years left on his contract, the second of which is prohibitively expensive for what he is. Especially when a lot of his value is in his rushing yards and that seemed to dry up last year. So now was the time to get the QBOTF. They can actually develop him for a season, a rare and valuable luxury, and they'll be able to do big things next offseason with Smith's contract off the books with very little dead money. They could well get a decent return in a trade too.

Anyway Kizer and Webb are hot garbage so sitting at 27 and taking a QB there was not an option. They had to have a succession plan at the most important position in sports and this is the first time KC has drafted a QB in the 1st since freakin 1983. Fortune favors the bold.

For all these reasons and more, 'LOL chefs' is a clown line and just a downright embarrassment for all who reacted that way. Just an ignorant, ignorant bit of armchair GMing. Deplorable. May God have mercy on your souls.

Also, lol Jimmy Johnson trade chart. If some teams are dumb enough to jump off bridges, does that make it the correct way to evaluate a trade?

That being said, I think it was a fine trade for the Chiefs, & very good for the Bills.

Well, it is hard to know the exact minimum a car dealer will accept for a given car, but the msrp can still be useful in evaluating that trade, even if few actually pay that price.

His argument is actually more akin to, "look I payed slightly under MSRP, I obviously got a good deal."

This is a league that still hasn't figured out the uselessness of assigning team wins to individual players. It's like the MLB in 2004. People right now are all like "Deshaun Watson won the big game! He's a winner and he just knows how to win! Sure he gets picked off on the regular but how cares, what a clutch, primetime football player! When the lights go on birka birka Watson!" So I don't doubt that KC could get something like a 2018 3rd or 2019 2nd for Smith.

FWIW - I've been reading Mahomes/Chiefs draft porn all day long. It's very clear the Chiefs have been high on him for a year+. They interviewed him for 6 hours at the combine (compared to supposedly 15 minutes for the Bears with Trubinsky). He's been their guy for a long time. They did what they needed to get him. Compare this to the Texans 2 pics later.

Lol rich white guys trying to fist bump.

Reid looks like he just won free lifetime Golden Corral buffet.

Now maybe the Chiefs are mistaken - but there's obviously no way Mahomes would have been there at 27. What they gave up isn't out of line for moving up 17 spots. So the argument they reached or panicked is silly.

Regarding drafting winners, Todd Blackledge won the National Championship.

Giving up two firsts + a third is too much to move up according to every trade chart that isn't a pile of ****. Chi, KC, Hou all moved up for QB's and only KC has a case. Everyone got fleeced.

If it pans out, congrats good for you.

Houston's pictures--they looked like they had no idea they moved up.

TV is also generally 2-3 picks behind the actual draft.

Celebrating after draft picks has to stop, it's like celebrating a participation trophy.

Charley Casserly defended Osweiler "he's a winner" "nobody out there is better than osweiler"

Steve Smith "anyone is better than Osweiler"

NFL draft as a player has to be the worst--you're sweating your team picking your goddamn replacement having to say can't wait to work with you then 10 minutes later you get cut.

This pick to commercial ratio is absurd. GO FASTER

2 4ths + a 6th/7th swap for 9 spots in rd 2 is pretty good.

Pace did this last year, gave up a 4th and had to get it back later.
