It doesn't matter if some of them can't. Some of them can which lowers their bust rate. RB can't be moved anywhere. I mean I guess some of them could be moved to WR.....

Obi, Peppers, and Jones all have a chance at playing CB or Safety because they played all those positions in college. With them being superior athletes they are all super safe picks. Just got to find what they do best in the NFL and let them do it.

Peppers never played S in college and played CB for a season and showed avg cover skills. Not sure how safe a pick Peppers is. A team isn't going to spend a top 10 pick on a S project. Now the back end of the 1st round yeah because he could be at minimum a great return man.

Thanks for the insight.

Are we talking about the same Peppers?

He played less safety in 2016 but he has played all over the field. He's also one of the best punt/KO returners in the country.

Safe pick. He could possibly play S, CB, or LB in the NFL.

I don't know nearly as much about OL as I'd like, but anyone who wants to learn more I'd recommend following LeCharles Bentley and Duke Manyweather on Twitter. I follow Geoff Schwartz too but he doesn't break down o-line play as often. Manyweather posts analysis the most often; I'd credit him with being my primary source on the Conklin stuff.

Has anyone been able to play three positions in the NFL since the 1950s? You're arguing that Jabrill Peppers is one of the best athletes in NFL history at this point.

No I'm not. I'm saying he could possibly play one of those three so he has less chance of busting because he has more possibly positions. So he struggles at CB then put him at Safety. If he struggles at Safety put him at LB. He's getting knocked for being an amazing player at different positions. It's silly.

Or he might be too slow to be a cornerback and too small to be a linebacker.

I just wish you'd support some of your assertions and assumptions. It's hard to figure out your reasoning when you just insist something is true and then when challenged say you meant something else.

I kind of want the Saints to take Peppers at 32 or in the second round. Seems like the defense has so many holes you just keep trying him everywhere.

Peppers played 52 snaps at safety in 2015. It's behind a pay wall but I got it off of PFF. He finished with 6 pass break ups that season. 8th most among the nations safeties that year.

Snap breakdown went like this in 2015

LB- 424 plays - 60.8%
CB- 221 plays- 31.7%
S- 52 plays - 7.5%

I didn't realize he played CB so often. But he says he intends to play safety, and I think that makes the most sense for him so I assume he's going to do so.

I haven't really made up my mind on him yet. I'm skeptical on tweener types unless they're serious athletic freaks (so like Brian Urlacher).

I am a Michigan fan and have seen every game.

He played like zero Safety in 2016, he was the Viper LB. If teams are looking at him at LB then they will only have him for a short time, 215lb LB don't have long careers.

He showed avg cover skills in 2015 at the CB position and wasn't good at finding the ball, so the are big question marks if he can be a starting CB worth a high pick.

You said he played 50+ snaps at S in 2015, that is 2/3 of 1 game on defense. S is the position he is looking to play but going off that little game film doesn't scream sure thing.

Taking him in the later 1st is a good move because at worst he is an exceptional return man and could be a very good defensive player but there are a lot of questions on him.

Peppers is a freak athlete and is very football fast, smart and physical but he might need good coaching to bring out his best. He didn't come in and start locking down players so he probably has to learn good technique. He is like 5'11" 215 lbs.

A lot of Michigan fans wanted him at RB last year.

He won't get past Rd1.

At that size/speed I don't see why he would have a hard time playing SS. He's fast enough to play FS as well. After seeing what's under the hood if he loses that 10 pounds he put on he might be a 4.3 guy. I don't get why him playing multiply positions at the College level is deemed a bad thing.

Not that this means anything to me but Mayock has Peppers as his #1 safety after the Combine.

I think he will be a good S but drafting a guy with pretty much zero experience with the expectation of him being your starter at that position for 10 years is risky. He is plenty fast to play any defensive position.

Playing multiple positions in college means he is a damn good football player but when you look at film, a majority of snaps at one position he won't play(LB), and another chunk of snaps he didn't show great coverage ability.

I would have a hard time drafting a player that has never played the position over 1 or 2 guys that have shown to excel at the same position.

How is Peppers a tweener? He's too small to even consider at LB but is just about perfect for safety except for being a bit too short to cover big TE's.

Urlacher was not a tweener either. He played safety in college or perhaps more accurately a modified safety/LB in a weird 3-3-5 scheme but he was 6'4" 258 lbs, benched 225 lbs 27 times, and ran a 4.57s 40 at his NFL combine. Urlacher was a prototypical LB in both size and athletic ability and definitely an athletic freak.

Right, Urlacher was a freak because he had the athleticism to play safety despite being 258 pounds. Peppers' measurements so far do not indicate freak to me.

Peppers isn't a freak but he's a plus athlete. He'll have no problem athletically playing safety but he gets downgraded a bit for playing so many positions and I don't understand it. It shouldn't be a negative.

you don't understand why people might be concerned about a safety who has played 50 snaps of safety?

He may not have been playing the listed safety position, but he functionally served as an extra strong safety for Michigan last year. His role at Michigan translates much better/closer to safety than LB.

He has terrific instincts in the run game, he's a very good tackler, and he can be extremely difficult to block when he's rushing the passer.

Finding the right scheme is going to be key for Jabrill. If he finds the right spot, he can certainly be a serious playmaker.

Tied for 8th most pass break ups among safeties on 52 snaps.....looks like teams went after him a little and he did well.

So we knew he was a great all around football player before the Combine. Now we know he belongs in the NFL athletically after a stellar combine. He also has multiply positions he could possibly play. Even possibly lining up on both sides of the ball and special teams. Seems like a great combination to own as a prospect and I wouldn't downgrade him for his versatility.

Are you sure that stat is isolating only the snaps where he played safety?

Wut?

Obi Melifonwu had a stellar Combine. Peppers had a fine Combine.

Obi Melifonwu had an all time great combine.

Peppers showed he's a plus athlete. Above average in his jumps and he's fast carrying nearly 215 on his frame. I'd call it a stellar combine but if you want to call it a good combine lol go ahead. It's just semantics. He answered any questions about his athleticism.

I'm not sure if those stats are isolated.
