CLIFFS:
1) pokergrader is our champion in either scenario.
2) chuckleslovakian finishes last in either scenario.
3) Our 3 podium members are the same in either scenario - but in the 'new standings', gazza137 and TakiToki finish tied for 2nd.
4) Our biggest gainers with the 'new standings' are tommy123 and Yippee ki-yay, they each went up 14 places.
5) Our biggest loser with the 'new standings' is ahmngrn30, who falls 15 places.
6) 27 of the 97 entrants either don't move their place, or move only one spot either direction.

The main thing out of all of that is:

pokergrader is our 2016 champion, using either scoring scenario.

The "worst beat" belongs to those that answered with 'Dave Hampton' for the 1,000-yard rusher. In the 1972 game.

The first set of rankings from the 2016 game is done. As was the case for the previous three games, we are leading off by ranking entrants from most correct answers to least. Here are the notes from this year's set:

1) The game had a total of 2,425 answers (97 entrants x 25 answers/entrant). Of the 2,425, there were 1,307 correct answers, and 1,118 wrong answers.
That means when factoring all of the entrants, and all of the answers given, a correct answer was played roughly 53.90% of the time. As we will see, that is up from 2015, but not yet back to the levels of 2013 and 2014.

2) The average for all 97 entrants is 13.47 correct answers out of 25 questions. This is also up from 2015, but still down from 2013 and 2014.

Was this the largest game of the 4 years? In smaller games, it makes sense to make sure you are correct more and the larger game should make you go ace hunting, correct?

Yes, entrants have progressed 51 -> 70 -> 86 -> 97.

Your strategy suggestion does make sense. What I've noticed is that there are questions each year you absolutely have to get right if you want to win, because the incorrect score is usually so large you can't overcome it.

Off the top of my head, if you want to win, you have to get the 300-yard passer right (this question is early on), you have to get the 'team to beat the defending champs' right, and you have to get both end-of-season questions about playoff teams right (team to miss playoffs after making and team to make playoffs after missing). Getting one or more of these wrong is a giant setback.

Next up, we're looking at aces.

Somehow, even though we went from 86 entrants in 2015 to 97 in 2016, we had more aces this year than last year! There were a total of 58 aces played in the 2016 game. The aces represent just over 4.4% of all correct answers submitted, and just under 2.4% of all answers submitted.
