This La'el Collins story is bonkers. Apparently an ex-girlfriend he hasn't seen in eight months or so was murdered, and though he's not a suspect, police still want to speak to him and haven't been able to yet. ...So teams are taking him off their draft board until he's cleared. Totally nuts, someone is going to get a huge steal there.

probably the patriots 7th round pick. Brady probably phoned in a favor to a cop to start this whole investigation.

he could be the father, which makes him a suspect. Teams are naturally going to avoid after hernandez. NFL is more about pr than anything else at times.

still far worth it in EV for later rounds for a guy who's a flip to make your team, might as well roll the dice with a clear first round talent. I don't know who's willing to put their name alongside YOU DRAFTED A MURDERER--well **** so did Ozzie Newsome, Bill Belichick and they're just fine. whoever was in carolina at the time etc. Collins drop/off boards is more everyone wanting to cover their ass than anything else. Welcome to the business world.

Pro move by Collins agent would be to get rumors out there he is a suspect and police are looking for him. He's undraftable and then the day after the draft it's revealed he's cleared and definitely not a suspect. He's now a 1st round talent as a UDFA and can negotiate a deal with any team he wants. Would that work?

yeah, not a surprise "we're taking X position" so they just grab the next one instead of the best guy on the board happens a lot--I'm certain ponder was one for example. Has to happen multiple times every year. It's just how people generally think. They get stuck.
