Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
Name a team outside the SEC that's been better than Oklahoma over the last 6-12 years. Only one you can really argue is USC, and they had probation come crashing down on their heads for all their success.

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
LOL @ putting Oklahoma State in there. They've only made 1 BCS game in their history. Texas does have the 1 national championship, but Oklahoma's won 5 of the last 8 conference championships, and Texas has only won the Big XII twice since 1997. Boise's the only team that might actually have a legit argument.

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
Oh, my bad. Just seeing it next to Texas set my mind toward Oklahoma State, didn't see the "t". Don't really see how Ohio State's doing any better though. They were pretty much exactly the same as Oklahoma, winning the conference a lot, rarely winning their bowl game, and then they got slapped with probation. Would definitely take Oklahoma's program over theirs the last 6-12 years.

Going forward next 5-10 years tho I think tOSU, USC, Oregon, maybe Texas will all end up perennially better than OU

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
I still don't see the Texas thing at all. Oklahoma's been way better than them throughout the entire history of the Big XII, and now Texas is coming off a 2 year stretch where they went 13-12 (6-11). Why would they pass Oklahoma now?
Oh, and BTW, for all Tressel's faults, he was an incredible recruiter and you still have to credit him for a lot of tOSU's success. Him not being around any more is a pretty big loss going forward, and I think it definitely puts them behind OU.

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
I mean just simply based on them getting pretty much any recruit from the state of Texas that they want. They've basically had QB issues and that's it; their defense has been stellar the past 2 years even as the team as a whole struggled. I don't see Texas remaining down for long. I think they're a pretty equal match for OU each year in the Big 12 going forward. They may not be national title contenders year in and year out, but they should be much stronger in the next few years.

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
There's just no game that Okla can't lose. It's like guessing where Beamer's going to have his biannual wtf moments.

Yeah, Urby can't recruit at all, nothing but three stars with MAC offers coming up.

I there's two reasons I feel Texas will be better than Oklahoma over the next few years.
1. We finally got rid of Greg Davis. From the time Mack Brown and Greg Davis got here in 98 till Davis left our best offensive play has been a broken play that ends up with the quarterback scrambling and the defense breaking down. This is fine with Vince Young or Colt McCoy but a disaster with a regular drop back qb.
I sat with a buddy who is a high school coach a few years ago and by looking at down, distance and the formation that we were in correctly predicted a vast majority of the play calls.
Another friend met Brent Venables, long time OU coach now at Clemson at a party. After a few drinks he admitted that they could guess what play we were going to run most of the time.
Greg was great in the games we totally out talented the other team, but was a complete failure in big games against teams of a similar talent level if we didn't have a freak of nature as a quarterback.
But sometimes the stupidity was too strong to overcome. He managed to get shut out against OU in 2004 with Vince Young and Cedric Benson in the backfield. We managed to lose to Washington State in the 2003 Holiday bowl when they blitzed on pretty much every down and Greg couldn't figure out what to do despite having Vince Young, Cedric Benson and Roy Williams. WSU blitzed something like 60% of the time that year. After the game Greg commented that he was surprised they blitzed and hadn't prepared for it.
Although Bryan Harsin got depantsed by the OU staff last year, I think that had more to do with our quarterbacks consisting of a true freshman and a guy with a noodle arm. I will be pleasantly surprised if Texas wins against OU this year, I expect Texas to be favored the next few years based on talent.
2. Recruiting is much different now that Greg and a few boat anchors are off the staff. Due to the laziness of the staff, if an OL wasn't within 30 miles of Austin we didn't recruit him. We also would coddle some recruits, promising not to recruit others at their position once they committed. This resulted in some gaps that came home to bite us in the ass the last two years at QB and RB.
We don't seem to be head to head against OU like we were in the past, as they have switched to a more nationwide recruiting strategy. While this can get you some great pickups like Demarco Murray who was recruited by local schools as a DB it can result in some disappointment on signing day as a guy who grows up in California isn't going to be as committed to OU as a guy who grows up in Texas is committed to Texas as he probably grew up a Longhorn fan or has family that went to UT.

Rarely winning the bowl game, lol. Look back at history, dude. Rose Bowl, Sugar, multiple Fiestas, NC. Ok, sure bro.

Yeah, they replaced Tressel with Urban Meyer...pretty sure they'll be fine recruiting-wise

Re: NCAA Football Offseason Thread
Tressel had an excellent bowl record whenever he didn't have to face the SEC
