Well then it's official. Borges officially killed his career as a QB.

I'm wondering how in the flying hell someone says Borges was awesome everywhere... does someone who is awesome everywhere have a career path of Auburn to San Diego State? **** he wasn't even great at SDSU either.

Ron Zook is a candidate for the LSU DC position according to sb nation.

This seems eh, well, bad. He's not the best LSU can do, right? Zooker and Les would be clock mgmt chaos haha

Auburn was 8-5 the year before Borges and 5-7 the year after. We were 41-9 with Borges, including an undefeated season his first year, after which Tubs quit recruiting. I think everyone appreciated how little Borges had to work with his last couple of years after he was gone. That's pretty awesome. How can you say otherwise?

Here's his wiki on SDSU:
On December 24, 2008, Brady Hoke (new head coach at San Diego State) hired Borges as offensive coordinator for the Aztecs.[1]

Borges worked as the offensive coordinator at San Diego State for two years, and helped lead the team to a 9-4 record in 2010, marking the Aztec's first nine win season since 1971. Borges' offense averaged 35 points per game in 2010.[9]

In 2009, Borges was a finalist to be the head coach at Portland State.[10]

So the program hadn't won 9 games since '71, so I'd say that's a pretty awesome job there too.

I mean, the guy had two bad years at Michigan. His resume on paper is otherwise solid.

Auburn went 41-9 thanks in large part to the defense. Al just happened to be there. In his first year at Auburn, he turned top ten offensive talent into a top twenty-five offense. Then the offense got worse every year while the defense remained very good, even after Tubs apparently quit recruiting. Sound familiar? He did the roughly same thing in his three years at Michigan.

Total offense at Auburn: 25th, 37th, 76th, 97th.
Total offense at Michigan: 42nd, 79th, 87th.

His offense sucked at Indiana, sucked at Cal, and he was hot and cold at UCLA in the 1990s. Congrats on overseeing the offense of a nine-game winning MWC team, I guess. We hired the head coach of that team. He turned out to be pretty awesome, too.

I get being nostalgic for the guy because Auburn won a natty with him, but he has a pretty long history of being a below average OC. His resume on paper is why he is now at San Jose State.

This is just not true. Auburn was awful on offense the previous year and Borges made Auburn's offense extremely fun to watch. Jason Campbell was booed off the field before Borges arrived.

The only thing this tells me is that the OC before Borges was even worse.

I thought Petrino wass the one who worked the magic with Campbell.

No that was Campbell's sophomore year when Petrino was there. He didn't really shine until his senior year.

The three that we are losing are the three worst coaches on the staff.

Bielema did the same thing with Chris Ash last year. Our defense went from in the 80's to top 10 this year. Hopefully our offense can do the same thing.

lol I know nothing about arkys coordinators. I was just under the assumption that changing coordinators so soon into Brets tenure wasn't exactly a good thing. Mostly because they seem to be doing just fine on offense, at least in the run game. I mean, they've been running all over everybody. I guess I assumed you would want some consistency with coaches while in the rebuilding process. I guess not.

Consistency can be good but not always. If the coach sucked, then obv best to ship him off.

Chaney's problem is that he is a terrible play caller. Our opening drives were money all year, and then we were awful the rest of the game against decent teams. He goes away from what is working and panics like no other OC I have ever seen. We have two 1000 yard back and an injured QB vs Missouri. Up 8 points and he starts throwing it all over the place. He cost us three games this year by abandoning the run in the 4th quarter when we had leads.

The Tennessee fans will tell you the exact same thing. He is 3-29 as an OC in SEC games the last 4 years.

The run game is Bielema's. That isn't going to change regardless of who we hire. We changed DC's last year and made the biggest improvement in the history of defense, imo.
