USC-8th--Loss in first round
Oregon-1--Elite 8 (a good #1)
Oregon State-7-Loss in first round
Zona-6-Loss in first round
Colorado-8-Loss in first round
Utah-3-Loss in 2nd round
Cal-4-Loss in first round

Combined 4-7 with all the teams losing to "worse" seeded teams.
Pac 12 smartly gamed the system by scheduling. Got alot if teams in, didnt matter that they all sucked.

to be fair to zona, they had to play a true 3 seed instead of an 11. Colorado arguably didn't deserve to get in though. A big problem with Depaul is nobody in the midwest cares at all about the big east. Despite chicago it's tough to recruit there as a result. Guess they need to figure out what marquette is doing illegally and getting away with and copy that.

mizzou isn't close to worst program in a power 5.

depends how far you go back, no?

last 3 years were horrendous with zero talent whatsoever and we still have scholarship/sanction issues including i think an open investigation from some tutor claims. previous ten years before that were perfectly good

What are you talking about?
Mike Anderson
63, 54, 6!, 23, 43 kenpom. Frank Haith was 7 kenpom the year after. Quin Snyder went to 4 strait tourneys including an elite 8. Have you guys ever heard of Norm Stewart? He was there 32 years! Making the tourney 16 of the last 24 seasons. Mizzou isn't anywhere near a bottom power 5 program and just proved it by making Martin a top 10 paid coach.

Only one 2 seed won the opening NIT game and all the 3 seeds lost along with one of the top seeds (cal). All but one to mid majors.

Those mid majors tho, they just don't get enough good wins to deserve ncaa tournament entry. **** the committee.

Syracuse won should be in the tournament ldo
03-16-2017 , 05:29 AM
BTW, has the selection committee ever put Duke and North Carolina in the same region yet? I know they've never played in the tournament, both in it nearly every year for 40 years. They pull lots of cutely matchups but never that one.
03-16-2017 , 05:40 AM
If both have a seed between 1 and 4, they can't be in the same region (at least by the current rules).
03-16-2017 , 05:44 AM
Pitt as a 1 seed lost to Big East foe Villanova as a 3 seed (fml) in 2009, so if that's the rule it hasn't been around forever.

If any of the conferences have 5 top 16 teams that's impossible too.
03-16-2017 , 06:01 AM
Yeah, the rule is that the first four teams from one conference have to be in separate regions if they are on seed lines 1-4. Nova was fifth ranked Big East team that year despite being a 3.

if it ever happens, it needs to happen in the F4. committee ain't stupid. TV ratings and TV $$$ are paramount, not fairness or integrity.

Maybe I should say Team instead of program then. They won 8 SEC games TOTAL in three years under Kim Anderson. He averaged 9 wins a year. He was steering them towards trainwreck.

Crean fired
03-16-2017 , 12:28 PM
Crean gone

wonder if theres gonna be internal pressure to hire an indiana guy like alford

getting fired a year after winning the big ten outright is outrageous especially considering the amount of injuries he dealt with this year

The season was going the wrong way before OG got injured. Losing Hartman before the year did hurt though. Missed tourney 2 of last 4 years and was a 10 seed one other year, even year won BIG they were a 5 seed.

Word is Alford would crawl back so it wouldn't be shocking if he ended up there. Hope not though. I'd like to try a Kevin Keats or Pat Kelsey out if they whiff on big names.

They won the conference outright because they had a pretty soft schedule. I guess the AD knew that.

Usually this is the case. You can't play yourself, though when IU won it in 2012 they had a pretty loaded schedule.

"The expectations for Indiana University basketball are to perennially contend for and win multiple Big Ten championships, regularly go deep in the NCAA tournament, and win our next national championship -- and more after that," Glass said in the statement. "We will identify and recruit a coach who will meet these expectations."

Well, yeah, that sounds good.

Crean probably had to go. They just seemed to be treading water the last couple of years, and I get that Indian fans think a final four bid is the bare minimum acceptable for a season, which makes them delusional, but no more so than a dozen or so other fan bases.

Kind of like Nebraska football fans - if they can just find the right guy the glory days will return. Which they won't.

And I heard an ESPN talking head saying that the new coach will need Bobby Knight's blessing to keep the natives happy. Awesome.

firing crean to hire alford would be incredible

Cream was 20 games below .500 in the Big Ten, slightly above .500 if you throw out the first two years with no talent. He's clearly not a top tier coach, and it shouldn't be hard to find someone to at least replicate his success
