At 48 AB, he is nearly 1/10th of the way to enough qualified at-bats for the record books, so it's time to talk about the ManBearPuig's quest for .400.

He's currently batting .479, which means he only needs to bat .392 over his next 454 AB to stay above .400. Given that he batted .517 in spring training and has hit .500+ in 8 of 13 games this year, it's totally doable.

Post your Puig praise here and follow along to witness the first rookie ever to win MVP on a last place team.

First post is a Doyers hater posting something that my OP doesn't actually say...anymore.

.400 watch threads are the best. I will be actively following Puig on his quest for .400. Let's hope Not Lolo doesn't show up.

BABIP regression gonna get him. He may only hit like .397

Two days since my OP and he's still at .479. Very impressive.

He is certainly going to sustain his .543 BABIP

2-4 so far today, bringing him to up to .481. Looking for him to end the double-header at least with a .500 day.

Gonna be awesome when he falls short of the minimum ABs needed and adding in a bunch of 0fers to get there brings him down below .400. Not Lolo will be vindicated, just not possible to do over 500 at bats in 2013 MLB conditions

Yeah, that's clearly the biggest obstacle in his way. He could end up like at .425, but be reduced to .399 with the 0fers and all the haters will be fist-pumping. Unfortunately for them they won't realize what a historic season they just witnessed because they are so hung up on the technicalities.

Interesting sidebet: Will he accumulate more games worth of 0fers from the rules, or real 0fers? Hitless in 2 of 14 so far.

What do you do after being struck out by Rivera? If you are Puig, you shrug it off and go 2-3 with a HR and 3 R (so far) in the next game.

4-9, 4 R, 1HR, 1 RBI, 1 SB. Very good day, but his BA drops a bit to .474.

Small issue with OP and response #10 .... it's 502 Plate Appearances for the season, not AB's (3.1 PA's per scheduled game).

Looks like he'll have 60 PA's after tonight's 70th game, so he's got another 92 to get 440 PA's. Batting near the top of the order, it's doable if he plays virtually every day.

It's called hitting, not walking

I won't be impressed until he's seeing 1 pitch a game and hitting it 430 like prime Bonds.

Pitchers are still throwing him strikes. Once they pour over the data he'll be just another hack. I'm calling his 225 OPS+ unsustainable. You heard it here first.

Just because he's only walked 3 times doesn't mean he's getting all strikes. He swings at bad pitches too.

Yeah, he's a good bad ball hitter. He lunges quite a bit at low outside balls, but makes contact. It worries me that they'll start taking advantage of it, but .434 with 7 HR in 3 weeks is legendary.
