NBA Starting 5 Draft 2.0: Modern Era

This will begin around when NFL/MLB drafts end.

We've done this before with a single season Starting 5 Draft (in hindsight nutshot raped with Mo Williams/James Harden/Lebron James/Carl Landry/Tyson Chandler). The draft went really well (have heard some call it their fav draft evarz), mainly because it's short (only 5 rounds) and we had a tournament and results.

Here are the rules:

1. There will be 32 teams in the draft. People who regularly contribute in basketball threads get first priority and then if there is room we'll fill out. Each team is assigned the name of a NBA team (and then 2 extras)

2. Five rounds in the draft in ABBBA format.

3. Write-ups are required for every pick. Even if it's only a short write-up. This draft will be full of elite players and judges will need explanations on how teams are built.

4. There will be 4 hour time limit for picks during the day. From 1 AM to 9 AM there is a dead period and there will be a 6 hour limit on weekends. This is only a 5 round draft so there's no rush, and most of the time people are good about picking quickly.

5. Inactive posters will be removed and replacedat my discretion.

6. You may draft players from the NBA 3-point era. (Starting in 1979-1980)

7. You are drafting five-year peaks. If someone peaked in 1972 but still playing in 1980, you get the 1980-1985 version, not the 1975-1980 version. Choosing 5 years to discredit insane one year outliers (T-Mac) but still appreciate players who played at very elite levels without crazy longevity.

8. There will be 5 judges. Upon completion of the draft, teams will be randed and put in a 32-team bracket for a tournament. The judges will then each give odds for each match-up, and those odds will be collected and averaged. Once the final odds are calculated, I'll use random.org to simulate each match in a Best of 7. I'll announce winners in the thread and repeat in the next round until there's a winner.

We need 32 posters and 5 judges. I will make final decisions on who is in the draft and judging if we have way more than 32 and 5 on the requests.

Go!

Blah, I really wanted to do a NBA draft with contracts and a salary cap, but in for this too.

I don't understand rule #7. So if you draft Nash you get him the last 5 years he played not his peak 5 years?

Sorry I'm sure I'm an idiot.
