He's not just a big that stand under the rim and swat shots, he's excellent at help defense, he's by far the best big on pick&roll D, he's the leader of a perennial top 3 D itl

He's not negative on offense, which is the case for Deandre/Bogut

Any kind of advanced stats this year puts him, top 3 on D, top20 overall.

17th VORP
17th BPM
20th RPM
10th winshares
13th ws/48
11th Ortg
3rd Drtg
2nd DWS
1st FG%
2nd points off screen

That's right stats love him, only other big sneaking in those rankings are AD and DMC

Only sick defensive players in those top 20 advanced stats lists are Kawhi and Draymond
cousins, Davis, DeAndre, Gasol are all a class above Rudy. I'd argue for others being better for certain but I can see the case for Rudy, I'll give you that. Saying that DeAndre is a negative on offense just shows your narrow scope of knowledge on the topic. Rudy was atrocious in the olympics when he was forced to be the best player on the team.

You think it'll look good if Deandre was the best player on his team ? The guy is catching lobs from the best passing point guard itl and shoot 50% from the line.

DeAndre's team would struggle if he was on a team that lacked creation, sure.

I've always been an advocate of separate game threads and TZ, but we actually got some newer NBAers this year and it'd not ingrained. Either need active modding or just combine em. Every morning there's long convos in the game thread. Which is good. Just in the wrong place.

just moved the posts into this thread

the young center discussion is great, but should be in this thread

Gobert isn't even his teams best big
11-29-2016 , 12:45 PM
Yes healthy Favors has the potential to be way better than Rudy, but that still won't throw Rudy out of the top 20 most valuable player this year, unless his production decrease (if you watch Jazz games, you'll notice Gobert is improving since the beginning of the season)
11-29-2016 , 12:49 PM
Favors definitely has a higher ceiling because of his offense, but Gobert has been a monster this year. He's the easy DPOY so far, for me.

Russ currently at an AST% of 59.1. The NBA record is Stockton at 57.5 and Stockton has the only 2 NBA seasons in history over 55.

Also at a REB% of 16.3. The only guards in NBA history to average over 13% are Magic (twice), Darrell Walker, Fat Lever, and Jason Kidd with Magic's 13.7 being the record.

Embiid
Kristaps
Towns
M Gasol
DeAndre Jordan
Whiteside
Jokic
Howard
Adams
Drummond
Gobert

If you're a once in a generation type of defense stopper, you're not middle of the pack at best on a list like this
Bolded is true, but I don't see him as middle of this list by any means. I also think a lot here are underrating Rudy's offense both now and in the future. He'll never shoot 3's but he's a load when he gets position, sets great screens and finishes at a high level. And unlike a lot of bigs with that skillset I think his court awareness and passing are pretty good.

I'd still take KaT/Staps going forward because of their age, but I would probably feel uncomfortable about it.

I mean what's more likely to happen, Gobert becomes a good offensive player (well on his way imo) or KaT/Staps become great defenders? I don't think it's an obvious answer either way but Rudy is propped up a bit by being older.
11-29-2016 , 01:52 PM
Why do write "KaT" and not "KAT"?
11-29-2016 , 01:55 PM
because i'm dumb

It reflects Towns impact on Wolves, sometimes it's capital, sometimes it's small

Just wanted to quote this, are we talking about Rudy Gobert or another Rudy? Because if Gobert, we're not watching the same games

Conley out indefinitely
11-29-2016 , 03:13 PM

tho.

lol, elite shot blocker.
11-29-2016 , 03:38 PM
no foul, good D, tough shot

Sometimes you need to get posterized to do this

11-29-2016 , 03:43 PM
Conley out - think they roll with it or make a trade for a vet?

Brandon Jennings?
11-29-2016 , 04:05 PM
I feel dirty but the Conley injury is such a boon for Denver--it increases their playoff chances whilst simultaneously upgrading the pick they are going to give them this year.
11-29-2016 , 04:20 PM
It really sucks. Conley is really really good and the Grizz were actually looking like a very good team when healthy this year. Maybe they can hang around, get the 8 seed, he can come back and they can play a fun series vs GS. They've always played them fairly well. Obv won't win but it's always entertaining to watch great D v great O.

Yeah I think it's good, but admittedly I've seen maybe 10 games of his the last two years. Anyone else in the know care to comment on this?
11-29-2016 , 04:45 PM
feel bad for Conley and the grizz. They absolutely need to find a bandaid. Somebody who can at least run the pick and roll with gasol and hit an open shot. No clue who would be available. Jennings doesn't seem like a bad idea.
