I know Manu had a solid final game (I'm assuming this was his last game) from looking at the stats, is there something else you guys are referring too?

On cue.

“@RealSkipBayless: As a longtime Spurs fan, that was as sad a game as I've ever watched them play. They would've been in the Finals with a healthy Kawhi.”

Tbf he could have watched all the film and made all the adjustments possible, picking at every minor edge he could muster, and it still would not have made a difference. Pop is good when he wants to be, but he isn't giving a team more than 15+ points a game. For a team led by a 39y/o Manu and Simmons and Murray and KAnderson, they did pretty well against Curry/Thompson/Draymond/Durant...

I didn't think he coached bad, they were just undermanned.

Not much you can do.

Be interesting to see where Spurs go from here.

It's crazy to compare how these legends (Kobe/Dirk/Manu/Duncan) are retiring and how Lebron probably go. I wonder if he's the one "chasing the ghost who wore #23" or whether it's the ghost who is haunting him.

What's weird is the Spurs ALWAYS figure it out. Pull some rando Euro out of their ass and a couple of 2nd round picks playing out of their minds and on and on.

Yeah, you almost feel like they will talk Pau out of opting in and not have to pay him 16m next year.

If Parker can't start the year are they eligible for any cap relief?

Simmons made himself a lot of money over the last few weeks but he is about to be 28, it is possible he comes back.

I think SA is probably hesitant to pay someone like him long-term right now given the situation with the Warriors, there will be star players over the next 2-3 years that want a chance to win a title and going to the Spurs may be the only option to do so with how stacked GS is.

Spurs need to lure CP3 to have any shot at ring equity over next few years.

Maybe Russ? Nobody really talking about him, FA after 2018.

They would probably be wise to shave some equity off next year (whatever it is they even have, they were +750 to begin the GS series) and maintain flexibility for 2018 and 2019. Guys may get tired of losing to the Warriors/Cavs.

RWB is good but I can't imagine him working well with the Spurs system/Kawhi. He's a selfish player and selfish doesn't win in the NBA with the super teams at the top.

Spurs are in a weird spot. Their always going to be at worst a middle of the road playoff team in the West and unless GSW get's hurt makes some huge personnel errors they don't have much real equity for the next few years. Right now they really just have 1 superstar, 1 fake all-star in Aldridge and a bunch of mostly over the hill players while GSW has 4 all-nba level players in their prime.

They need to find some guy like Kawhi, Parker, Ginobili and hit big again with lesser known players/talents (i.e. not high lotto picks). Signing these marginal older players like Pau/Aldridge is just a bandaid and as others have mentioned will be an issue long term to their viability as a real contender.

Well, I saw every other game in the series.

Nothing really stood out as awful. I mean your best perimeter creator is Jonathan Simmons and you're playing a team with 4 all stars.

What did you have in mind? Just curious. I tend to never bother to blame coaches when they are at a massive talent deficit even if they make -EV moves tho.

Again, ridiculous to suggest that they have no ring equity now or going forward. They were up 23 in the 3rd quarter of Game 1 before their MVP went down (with another important piece, TP, already hurt - he in turn would have made Aldridge better by getting him more long 2 looks). Were they going to win the series? Probably not, but it was looking good to go 6 at least. You get injury luck or a few bounces and you're right there.

Still fondly remember my 2p2 friend texting me after 2015 loss, using a Marlo quote. "You want it to be one way", about the Spurs remaining relevant the next season. Yea, well, Spurs probably (yes, probably) would have beaten the Warriors last year had they hit the good side of variance in the Thunder series.

I'm fine if you think Pop didn't make any obvious adjustments bc he had no chance but he has, for several postseasons now, missed making the changes. My thesis is the fire is gone.
