Look Lebron is going to the Lakers after next season. That's where he will team up with PG.

Likeliest outcome is probably:
PG to the Cavs
Love to 3rd team
3rd team picks to IND

Plus the various bits and pieces needed to make the trade work under the salary rules.

I just don't see why George v love makes Cavs muck better esp with opportunity ccost of their few tradable assets

If they don't build LeBron a super team he'll leave. He likely thinks Paul George is more of a super team caliber player than Kevin Love is.

It does also make Cleveland decently better for one year but if George just jumps ship after that anyway then they lose Love for nothing.

Trade Love for George and they still get wamped by GS next year. And Boston looks to be in position to close the gap in the east a little.

Agreed. Don't think they have a reasonable shot either way and they'd be better to hold onto Love and hope the Warriors break up in a year or two assuming that George would give them one year until he's off to LA.

And it would be horrible for the league. East would be even more one-sided while remaining significant dogs to the Warriors in the finals. This year they were given 9 points away and ~4 at home, I mean how much does George really shave off? Neutral fans are better off hoping the Cavs remain the same and the Celtics get something this offseason, we'd have a competitive East finals as a consolation.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

Cleveland could give a bunch of unprotected 1sts in 2019-2023+ pick swaps and by then Cleveland might not be very good.

How many pick swaps and unprotected 1sts in the future is PG13 worth? No guarantee any team will be any good in 4 years+ (even the Warriors) Would Indiana be interested in a bunch of 1st round picks 3-5 years from now or does their GM need a quick rebuild for job security purposes?
Could any team give up a Garnett/Pierce type trade for PG13?

I was thinking this too. Throw in Crabbe plus picks and it basically works. Rental though is the problem

I think Cleveland could only trade its 2022 and 2024 pick. Right now they owe the 2017 pick to Portland and then either the 2019 or 2020 pick to Atlanta. Thus, the first pick they could trade is 2022. Also, under the seven year rule, they can't trade picks past 2024 (once this draft is over, as of today its 2023). They could also add a 2018 swap and then a 2021 and 2023 swap.

I don't see this as nearly enough for George. The 2018 swap is worthless, and waiting 5 years for your first pick and 4 years for your first swap seems way too long a time frame.

ESPN Cleveland‏ @ESPNCleveland 49m49 minutes ago

Windy pitches ideal scenario: Trade Love for George, Carmelo released and Cavs sign. Also mentions idea of LBJ calling Bosh if cleared...

George on the Cavs would be fun. It's worth a one-year rental.

What salaries would Melo and Bosh have to take for this to even be possible?

Also isnt Bosh's career confirmed over? Afaik barring some kind of breakthrough treatment he'll never get cleared to play by a medical staff. Too much risk.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

Melo would have to sign for the minimum. He still gets paid by the Knicks regardless and most of what he earns from a new team is subtracted from his Knicks salary so he has little incentive to ask for more than the minimum.

Could they somehow finagle their way to trading TT to the Knicks? Knicks exactly where TT belongs

Would about other teams? As a Raptors fan would they take a JV/ #23 in this year's draft, 2019 unprotected, 2021 unprotected and 2022 pick swap? (Included JV because of salary matching-doubt they would want Carroll instead)
