Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Boozer could get amnestied but that's a lot of money to eat for a historically cheap owner.

I would think though that the need to wait two years to free up cap space indicates they'd be better off using the 7 pick rather than trading for a vet
also, is Boozer really that bad? i know he's way, way overpaid but you guys often talk about him like he's not even a net positive player.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Hes just terrible defensively and if hes not hitting his midrange shot hes never gonna be able to put in quality minutes on a contender. Thats my opinion anyway.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Boozer was alright last year. Played all games but lol 30 min/g. Was awful against Philly where he was exposed without Noah playing with him.
His contract isn't in untradeable Amare territory but it's bad. I doubt they amnesty him too. Oh yeah almost forgot, Boozer has the lowest WIM in the league:

I thought I played well, especially with the kind of season it was," Boozer said, when asked to asses his second season in Chicago. "We had the best record again in basketball, won our division again, had the top seed again, that's all that matters, yo.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Boozer would be a great piece off the bench for a contending team. (just his skills/value in a vacuum)
But as a starter he limits your defense a lot. When he has to guard a guy past 12/13ft he's at a big disadvantage. He also doesn't offer much helpside D, not because he isn't smart enough, but because he's obviously not athletic/long enough.
He's the perfect amnesty candidate, but as LS said, Reinsdorf always been cheap.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Interested in what the elite NBA posters would do if they were the Pistons GM, all things considered.
What they think of our current young core's potential, where they'd go in the draft, where they think we will be picking in next years draft, etc etc.
If anyone wants to waste a few minutes of their life talking Pistons that is.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
According to nypost.com:
Quote:

The new mascot is said to have a knight’s theme and will replace Sly Fox, who like many in the team’s New Jersey fan base will not be making the trek across two rivers to the Barclays Center. It is not known exactly when the Nets will showcase their new mascot. .... The Nets, who have the NBA’s most devout comic book fanatic in center Brook Lopez, sought advice and designs from the brain trust at Marvel Comics where the likes of Captain America, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man were born.
|
I think that's pretty cool, but why not just call themselves the Knights. I've thought Brooklyn Knights >>>>> Brooklyn Nets for many months now.
Prokhorov definitely plays chess, so why not leave "Nets" behind and move onto "Knights" which Russia could get behind as well for his "growing international product".

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
so it seems like most people consider durant the clear #2 guy itl this yr since he improved his creating / ballhandling and hgh regressed a bit, basically for 2 reasons
-ft% randomly dropping by 10% after years of consistency
-magic being worse on d due to hgh dogging it / randerson being horrible / both
say durant doesn't get any better and hgh returns to 10-11 form, who is the better player in 12-13?

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
i mean people act like amnestying boozer is like auto losing all the salary but boozer still would get 8mil a year from another team so its not that bad for the bulls

I mean all of this ignores the fact that hibbert is pretty obviously a positive defender.
that said, it's a joe johnson max.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
Hibbert is much more than just a positive defender.
It's not like the JJ contract at all. That was his 2nd big money deal and it started when he was 29. Hibbert is 26 in December and has gotten better every year (esp this year).

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
think hibbert is right on the edge of being a meh max, positives are that he appears to be a model citizen and has skillset scarcity in his favour. the fact that's he's never played 30mpg is kinda concerning tho. matters quite a bit imo, heat kinda ****ed indy in the paint when hibbs was out of the game in that series
i think indy have to just give him whatever but will hope that he either continues to improve his per minute value or is able to play more minutes down the road
what exactly is he eligible for anyway? c00n's faq says first yr max is 12.9 milly and eligible for 5 yrs with 7.5% non-compounding raises = 5yrs 74milly the pacers can offer vs 4 yrs with 4.5% raises that other teams can offer = 4yrs 55milly. is that correct, i keep reading different numbers in various articles

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012
I mean, I never said Hibbert would be a good max. Just said what's going to happen if someone does happen to offer him a max. Pacers just gonna have to grin and bear it when they match.
