Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012

Quick question about the Lin stuff, I was not really paying attention. I thought he had no control over where he plays next year, is that true? Rockets make an offer and either Knicks match or they don't, or am I missing something?

if you guys consider this front office gamesmanship, fine, whatever. maybe everyone is just going to ignore how ridiculous it was for the "league" to step in last year. it's just too much for me that the guy who was leading the charge under the auspices of whatever bull**** they came up with at the time now has no problem with a big market team getting a superstar.
gilbert was part owner of the hornets. he had every right to give his opinion and use his influence.

Well, he could have accepted an offer from any team, but when he accepts, he can either go to that team (Rockets in this case) or the Knicks.

He had no control over whether the Knicks chose to match. He could have signed initially anywhere for any amount, essentially, the Knicks just always had the right to match whatever he signed.

But the second deal is better for him so why would he say not to that? NYK could've matched, they just didn't want to spend the money. That's their business I guess, but how is that Lin's fault? Dude has probably only made a few hundred grand from basketball in his life, he was sleeping on Landry Fields' couch last year.

dolan probably thought that lin owed nyc something for giving him the opportunity to make that kinda money in the first place.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012

The NYK gave him a chance cause the goal is winning games and he had potential. He does not owe them anything. They would have cut him as well if he failed. It is business not personal. The NYK made a fortune off him last year.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2012

If Dolan is mad that Lin got Houston to up the offer, he should be blaming Woodson who unequivocally declared (after the details of the initial offer were publicized), that Knicks would match and Lin would start. And there were plenty of other similar reports from unnamed Knick officials.

Dolan just didn't know how to handle the bizarro world of teams wanting to overpay for his players
