i can't think of anyone itl i expect to age better than lma - never injured, relies on excellent shoot, legit 7' and pretty long/strong, no real reliance on speed or leaping. seems like a fine pick to me


harden going at 11 is interesting - guys capable of pulling out mvp seasons in 2-3 out the 5 years should be valued higher than 11 i think. i would have taken him before westbrook (fall off a cliff concerns as mentioned by others) and dmc (lifelong loser)


magic gianson going where he did seems correct - he is literally a freak. i remember having a discussion about how good durant would be if his shot was busted, atm giannis is probably about as close to that as you can get - except giannis has better pg skills than durant, and is probably a better athlete, as sick as that is

i dont think LMA is a top 25 player in this draft and its not insane. People have this misconception about his shot creation. its very overrated. he is a league average shooter from mid range

LMA is fine. He can carry offense for a team. There aren't a ton of players out there that can do that. Not sure what Draymond is gonna do on a team without a top 30ish player.

Yea Draymond has the biggest difference by a lot between "Value provided to his IRL team" and "Value provided to his draft team"

it's not just his shooting, he's versatile, rarely turns it over, good finisher, can create for himself through postups really reliably. obv his actual %s from midrange aren't ultrasick, but most of the shots he's shooting are +ev iyam

My main issue with LMA is turning 31 in a few months but maybe I'm overreacting to his age.

LMA will be fine but having your top asset be 31-35 year old LMA in this league seems like a bad time.

I get him for basically exactly his prime, not many players you can say that about.

Good track record of health, excellent teammate/leader per stories that emerged earlier this year, and is a one man offense-- 8.2 3PA/g @37.7%, under half of them assisted. If Steph weren't Steph we'd be talking a lot more about Dame.

Btw I would have never dreamed of taking this player this early given positional scarcity like a year ago but the impressive season he's had carrying a "solid" supporting cast to the 5th or 6th seed in the West cannot be overlooked. Not a good defender, but defense is typically a little easier to find than offense and is less important (I thought Seth and Nate Duncan had a good convo about this talking about how offense is probably twice as important as defense). Anyway, I've never taken Lillard in a draft before so I'm stoked! Also feel like I can go a few different directions if the value presents itself since he is already a fringe top 10 player and should remain that way.

going to have to go with CP3. Game doesn't rely on athleticism and is still performing at an all time level at 30. i dont expect him to drop off at all for the 5 years stretch.

I get an elite 2 way big for his age 25-29 years, has size and speed where he can work in many lineups depending on whats available.

yeah dame > lma and imo some other guys too

cp3 is a weird one, i could see injuries just killing him, but his smarts/skills bode well for ageing. could go either way, he hasn't really fallen off much at all as a 30yo and hasn't been badly injured in a few yrs. if he pulls a lowry and de-fats himself for once, and runs good on injuries, then he's probably a ok shot to be an impact guy for the whole 5 yrs

i think every pg relies on their athleticism more than than bigs, cp3 does lots of really brutal changes of direction and herky moves that are gonna get harder if he's losing it physically. stockton was a) way worse than cp3, lolstockton, and b) in great shape

but aside from that it's a higher risk for him because he has a pretty long injury history, every player who's had serious injuries is a bigger risk to fall off fast
