Anas Mahmoud is an intriguing prospect if he comes out after this season.

Most years he would be. Looking at DE top 8

1.
Markelle Fultz PG
Washington, Freshman
2.
Lonzo Ball PG
UCLA, Freshman
3.
Dennis Smith PG
N.C. State, Freshman
4.
Josh Jackson SF
Kansas, Freshman
5.
Jayson Tatum SF
Duke, Freshman
6.
De'Aaron Fox PG
Kentucky, Freshman
7.
Malik Monk PG/SG
Kentucky, Freshman
8.
Jonathan Isaac SF
Florida St, Freshman

God damn. Not a big man year but it looks like a historically good year for the 1 spot through 3 spot

Re: NBA Draft 2017

If the Celtics get the #1 pick (through Brooklyn), what do you think they'll do in a PG-heavy draft at the top?

Will they draft and keep who they believe is the best player? And will that necessitate a trade of Isiah Thomas?

Or, is some trade of the #1 pick possible and what could they possibly get in such a trade?

It's a good problem to have.

It's not a problem. Isaiah Thomas can hit the bricks so fast to make room for Ball or Fultz. You do not pass on a transcendent star because you have a slightly above average vet PG near the end of his prime.

I don't think he necessarily needs to be traded either. Neither player is likely to ready to star as a rookie, so keep IT for his contract year and then let him walk in FA. I doubt he fetches a huge return in a trade, and I'm not sure paying him monster $ to keep him for ages 29-33 is optimal even w/o a stud prospect in tow.

Re: NBA Draft 2017

Dean, you think Markkanen has a shot at top 3?

Shooting 50% from 3 on 96 attempts at 7 feet and moves really well. Him vs Isaac seems like a real debate at this point.

Re: NBA Draft 2017

I don't think he'll go top 3, but it's possible that he will look like he should have before long. I'm a big fan but most other ppl seem to be skeptics.

Anyway, did a writeup on exactly how insanely sick this draft is, and also gave my detailed analysis of all of the top 11 guys:

How good is this year's draft?

Wrote a few words on how good this draft class is, then many words on each top prospect individually: How good is this year's draft?

Re: NBA Draft 2017

Cs should def not trade the #1 unless its for a guy of at least Jimmy Butler's level and even that probably isn't enough.

#1 is so good given that we're in an NBA where most likely the next 3-4 years are super, super tough to compete in, but the Celtics are in a unique situation of being able to be a ECC level squad while still getting a head start on 5 years from now.

Re: NBA Draft 2017

As someone who has watched Markkanen for the past 4 years, I think he could possibly go in the top 5. More realisticly in the top 8. It probably will depend on team need. (Like the nuggets should draft Isaac and the timberwolves Markkanen.)

Lonzo Ball is my # 1 overall fwiw and Smith seems way too high to me.

Re: NBA Draft 2017

I wouldn't trade the #1 for Jimmy Butler.

1) Even w/ Butler they are clear dogs against Cleveland and huge dogs vs GSW
2) This is uncharted territory for value of a #1 pick midseason. The Nets are running away with most ping pong balls, and if they finish at the bottom C's have 46.5% equity to draft somebody who is a favorite to peak better than Butler. And even the 53.5% time they pick 3/4, they still may nab somebody who goes #1 in another draft.

Given that they already have Stevens and GSW is such an obstacle to championship, may as well shoot for the long term dynasty. Stevens/Fultz or Stevens/Ball could be the new Pop/Duncan or Pop/Kawhi.

Re: NBA Draft 2017

davon reed seems like a 2nd round pick who ends up sticking with spurs

legit 6'6" with a 6'11" wingspan who shoots 40% from 3 and gets a decent amount of stocks

I would draft Lauri as Nuggets. He would be a fierce pairing with Jokic, as they would make the offense completely unstoppable. IMO defensive issues would be worth stomaching.

Interesting call. I hadn't thought about Reed as a prospect, but he's a super young senior and definitely has a chance of sticking in the NBA.

I think Lauri's length would mitigate the defensive issues somewhat. It would be worth it just to see if they can break the team record for PPP.

Was reading this and got to your small OG part - hes basically Rondae Hollis Jefferson coming out right? Even before the injury he showed next to nothing as far as improvement offensively from last year. I cant imagine hes worth a first round pick when you factor in the injury, seems like itd make more sense for him to just return to Indiana.

First time watching Dennis Smith. He's inserting his massive dong inside Duke in the second half here. Elite play making.
