Even after 2011, I bet the Spurs couldn't have gotten a top 5 pick for Kawhi if they wanted. I think a good strategy would be to just try and trade your pick for someone around that slot the previous year that outperformed those around him.
What would Brogdon fetch, a top 15 pick? Thon about the same?
Seems to be a few guys who are worth >>> Pick slot (namely some #1 picks, Giannis, Gobert, Jokic) and a TON of guys worth a lot less. But I think this is standard in most sports that draft.
I think Spurs could have gotten a #5 pick for Leonard. His year 1 stats are pretty damn good and his measurables were insane to begin with. The only real reason he wasn't a lottery pick was due to him playing at SDSU. His wingspan and hand size are insane.
