AiMc/kc selects:

Spoiler:

6. LeBron James

Spoiler:
Tyvm for our overwhelming title equity in year 1 of this event. We expect LeBron to age well (he currently spends reportedly +$1 million a year to maintain his supreme level of physical fitness). He can bulk up a little more and become a Karl Malone / Draymond Green enhanced 3 point shooting hybrid "big". Plus he's built like a tank now, imagine him even stronger. Going to obv look to build up our team for the first 3 years (age 33-34-35 for LeBron) of this draft.

I PM'd w_alloy.

I think the top 6 is pretty clear(you guys got it right), but the order is a really interesting debate. I would go:

1. Kawhi
2. Durant
3. Lebron
4. Giannis
5. Steph
6. Harden

Positional scarcity and the (in)ability to be a lockdown playoff defender keep Steph/Harden at the bottom for me, although I can buy an argument that Giannis should be #6(definitely no lower though imo). I think Lebron is going to age really well and I would consider him at #1.

7. Rudy Gobert

At 24 years old he is already the best center in the league and the perfect age for this format. He leads the league in TS% and is generally considered the best rim protector. Perhaps one of the mega-elite undrafted PGs would have been a more conventional pick, but there are just too many good PGs left and far fewer good centers. Additionally with only 23 teams I think the value of shot creation goes down a bit while efficiency and elite defense are a bit more valuable.

gobert went 32nd last year, which was a great pick. i have brow and KAT def above him. i think after that is reasonable tho. great age

I strongly considered KAT and AD but I think their defense is a bit too unproven, especially KAT. AD is also 24. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I'm in the minority on this though.

Russ has the type of game that could age badly. I would go

7. Brow
8. KAT
9. Russ
10. Gobert

These were all the guys I debated plus one more.

You could play Russ at the 2, there's a specific point that would be great to pair him with.

I could see Bron going around here also, I think his equity for next year is overstated.

This. There is no way I would draft Russ ahead of KAT. He is going to fall off a cliff in a few years.

maybe you missed those 3 really good games he played 9 months ago? don't you remember that block? it was iconic! and his team won! very impressive, 85% equity in year one, didn't you hear?

Asking for rat/heals because they are too lazy to ask. Are there any restrictions on who you can draft? Say they want to draft a HS player is that cool?

Its a 5 year draft. Russ is guaranteed to be better than KAT for a couple of years. Could be better for all 5.

You guys massively are overvaluing youth.

Year 1 is just as important as year 5. Year 6 doesn't exist.
