Re: Music Label Draft Picks and Discussion Thread

Interesting pick. Wasn't in my Top 10, although my favorite songwriter of all-time. I can see from a label perspective he could hypothetically be writing songs for artists beyond himself, and many of the most popular versions of his songs were not recorded by Dylan.

You could play with my hammered late night friday nights too. I'm sure that is hilarious to be a part of.

So yeah, his value is largely as a performer, which isn't terrible, and a bit as a writer/producer (if someone wants they can add up the songs he's written in his life, seems like ~50 maybe). does he even play an instrument (pretty sure i've seen him playing the piano, can he play a guitar or anything else?)? it's just unclear is he adds a ton as a collaborative studio musician.

like i said, it's probably a good pick if he builds his studio the right way from here on in, i was just trying to counter the "zomg draft over" type of sentiment.
I don't think you are aware of how many legendary hip hop producers that could do for Jackson exactly what the people he worked with did... that part is just trivial. I'm not going to miss out on that.

That alone would be the greatest album of all time.

IMO "Off The Wall" is one his meh albums, probably up there with "HIStory" and "Invincible". The other three have the biggest hits and he had the most influence on those albums. Also the three best songs off of Thriller were all written by him. Some of the best on "Bad" weren't written by him too. Really feel like you are selling him short man. Looking through the credits on some of his albums it looks like he played instruments on them as well.

Re: Music Label Draft Picks and Discussion Thread

If Dylan couldn't perform he would be a first rounder, so going in the top 3 is obviously fine.

7/9 songs on Thrillers were released as singles which is insane.

i guess i was pretty dumb for thinking that i might have a shot at Dylan @ #14...among other things, apparently. he went relatively low in that music festival draft though, no? (especially given his reputation as a live performer)

Re: Music Label Draft Picks and Discussion Thread

Dylan's value is much higher in this draft then the festival draft. You can use him as a songwriter for other artists and you he is an accomplished solo artist.

Unbelievable now my internet decided to crash and I lost my writeup as it was 100% finished. I'll have an abbreviated one up in just a few guys, sorry.

Re: Music Label Draft Picks and Discussion Thread

The POG crowd also doesn't take the drafting as seriously as SE. Lots of people were just taking personal favorites or the festival they would most like to attend etc.

Great pick though. I love Dylan. And not just as a writer.

Lennon was a guy in my top 3 and probably the guy I would have taken #1.

That blows my mind, because he's one of the three guys I think is clearly worth the #1 overall pick.

I think here we get the first example of an artist who would get an extended career after his IRL death, correct?

Lennon was another guy I considered a potential #1 overall. I'm a huge, huge fan and would have grabbed him if Dylan had gone.

I saw Dylan live last year and it was... yikes. He changed the key and tempo to all of his songs and you couldn't make out a single word either. I'm not quite sure what that was all about. Still confused.
