Round 1, Pick 15

Spoiler:
- Over 30 U.S. Top Ten hits
- 10 U.S. #1 pop hits
- 22 Grammy Awards, the most ever for a solo artist
- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee
- Over 100 million albums sold
...oh, and did I mention he's blind?

Spoiler:

Stevland Hardaway Judkins, aka, Stevie Wonder

Not really sure if this is good value or whatever...but I flat out love Stevie Wonder. Given my 2p2 handle, that might come as a surprise to some of you, but Stevie is one of my biggest musical heroes. I simply couldn't pass on him.

I do think he's a really good pick though. Commercial success? Hells yea. Critical success? Check. Longevity? Yes sir. Musicianship? Through the roof. The multi-instrumentalist is probably most known for his golden voice and chops on the keys but he's also an accomplished songwriter and producer, making him a fantastic studio centerpiece. He's the engine of my label, which isn't exactly unexplored territory for him.

Quite simply, this man is Motown as far as I'm concerned, having signed with them in 1961 at the age of 11, charting his first hit at the age of 13 with Fingertips and continuing to record with the label to this day. He is an absolute machine, pumping out hit songs and records over several decades and surviving numerous changes in industry trends. Heading into his sixties, the man remains an icon of American music and will go down in history as one of the most successful musicians of all time.

Geddy Lee Records:

- Stevie Wonder (performer, songwriter, musical god)

**** yeah.

I LOVE Stevie! And I think he's super valuable because he can do it all. In fact, I think during his creative peak (at least with one of those albums) he literally wrote, arranged, and performed every note.

I was hoping he'd slide down to me and I could make my hard rock label. Had to adjust.

Also, bonus points for choosing a Sesame Street performance as your intro music.

I'm about to head out to dinner and a movie w/ my gf and I'll be out all night. Should I do the same thing where I PM someone a list that can be then sent to ensure the draft isn't slowed?

Yeah, please do. TSC has the pick before his lined up, so it's only Dyenimator before you. You can send me your list.

Pudge is out and I don't know for how long. I'm going home from work now. I can make both of our picks if it gets to us within the next hour and a half or so. Hopefully he comes back before then but if not we might have to send a list too.

TSC has kitaristi's pick but I think he's gonna wait for him to come back and do the writeup before he publicly posts it.

And it's not even my favourite string of albums from an artist...but damn it's close.

I guess PM me and/or Dyenimator with it? You could post it but I think it sucks a lot of the air out of the discussion to have a pick posted with no writeup and without the owner here to defend it.

Round 1, pick 17

Okay, well after the soul crushing pick of Stevie Wonder two picks before me, I feel like I am “settling” a bit here if you can believe it. No offense to diehards of the following.

Spoiler:

Okay, well first I’d be lying if I said I was a huge fan, but it doesn’t really matter. I think he’s kind of awesome at the same time, plus he was someone both TuT and I had mentioned.

Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists ever and it appears that he really blossomed as a solo artist, even while having a ton of success in the various groups he’s been in.

He’s actually the only person who’s been inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame three times, twice as a member of a group and once as a solo artist, so that speaks for itself really.

I guess the reason I swayed towards him over maybe a few other guys is that I really like his blues-rock styling, and well he helped make a certain undrafted popular in the US with a cover of his song. So he gives our studio some nice stylistic variety, song writing experience, and epic riffs ldo.

Some songs I like, other than the first one linked.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYS73...eature=related (Cocaine)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10qLY...eature=related ( I Shot the Sherrif cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGDIxcuPT7s (Change the world)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AscPO...eature=related (Tears in Heaven)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3RYvO2X0Oo (Guitar Gently Weeps-solo ldo)

Yeah I realize some of these aren’t just his and some are covers, whatever. Point being, he has the ability to reinvent old songs, make big impacts on others, and create on his own.

Finally, I think his ability to constantly evolve and be relevant in several genres is super important (sort of like Stevie Wonder as well).

Not going to lie either, super disappointed not to get Stevie, great pick Geddy. I still think I can probably do what I intended, but will need to open up a bit on the rock end somewhat.
