I know very little about classical music, but i have to figure Bernstein was the best conductor in this draft.

Will Smith is a very weird case. I think he could still be making great pop music, but he became too big for music, which is kind of insane when you think about it.

Top 10 selling music artist of all-time in the 12th round, best value pick of the draft imo.

+1

I was beginning to wonder if he was ever going to get picked. Same with Seger.

There's still one undrafted who I just get how it's possible they're still undrafted.. Maybe I'll get an explanation at some point, I'm more than curious.

And LOL at a Marley branded "calming-beverage" being in the works.

Not to be too big of a nit (yeah right, I know) but conductor/composer aren't really interchangable. Most can do both, but not all. I would assume that Bernstein was selected for his composition skills, not conducting skills. Same with John Williams.

Spoiler:

Jeff Tweedy

Quote:
Jeffrey Scot Tweedy (born August 25, 1967 in Belleville, Illinois, United States) is an American songwriter, musician and leader of the band Wilco.

Wilco has released eight albums and found commercial success with their albums Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost Is Born, Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album). Jeff Tweedy has been the recipient of two Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Album for A Ghost Is Born. Tweedy has also participated in a number of side groups including Golden Smog and Loose Fur, has released a book of poems, and has released a DVD of solo performances. He was originally influenced by punk and country music, but has recently reflected more experimental themes in his music.

Quote:
Some critics have dubbed Wilco the "American Radiohead", due to their stylistically diverse catalog. A critic from the New York Times argues that Wilco has a "roots-rock...[sound which] reached back to proven materials: the twang of country, the steady chug of 1960s rock, the undulating sheen of the Beach Boys, the honky-tonk hymns of the Band and the melodic symmetries of pop."
I feel as if Jeff Tweedy bridges a great crossover between the songwriters and alt-country acts on my label. Jeff, as the primary songwriter beind Wilco is a diverse lyricist and musician that solidifies a large portion of what I wanted to take here later in the draft, and the overall cred of my label.

Tweedy is better than a lot of recent indie rock picks like Karen O or Jim James imo

I have to think Jim James is comparable. He does a lot of stuff outside of MMJ.

Now that I've got a couple of my favorite artists in here in the second half rounds, I wanted to go back and solidfy other areas of my label with some big names that are still out there. I might be risking you guys refilling some of the haterade that some of my earlier picks had but oh well.

Spoiler:

Gwen Stefani

Quote:
Gwen Renée Stefani born October 3, 1969) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and fashion designer. Stefani is the lead vocalist for the rock band No Doubt. With previous material ranging from punk rock to new wave music, their third wave ska oriented third studio album Tragic Kingdom (1995) was a success, selling 16 million copies. It spawned the singles "Just a Girl", "Spiderwebs", and "Don't Speak". Rock Steady (2001) focused on dancehall production traits, and generally received positive reviews.

Stefani recorded her first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. in 2004. The album was primarily inspired by music of the 1980s, and emerged a success with sales of seven million. The album's third single "Hollaback Girl" was the first U.S. digital download to sell one million copies.
Spiderwebs
Just A Girl
It's My Life
Underneath it All

I'm willing to look past some of the later pop hits (even though they'll be a good money grab for the label) for the sheer awesomness that was No Doubt. I think having the primary member of both Green Day and No Doubt, two of the better and most popular acts of the 90s opens up a base for all the younger audiences to flock to that section of my label.

Studio so Far:

Top Tier-Can be successful in whatever they want to do
John Lennon
Thom Yorke

Alt-Country/Rock
Garth Brooks
Stevie Nicks
Jeff Tweedy

Alternative/Hard Rock
Maynard James Keenan
Slash and Scott Weiland

Pop Punk
Billie Joe Armstrong
Gwen Stefani

Songwriters
Alanis Morrissette
Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson
Elliott Smith
Jeff Buckley

Both Marr and Hooky are "finally"s for me.

props to vix's picks - & vix for picking them. (I'm pretty sure Bernstein is as a composer, but you get a top conductor thrown in for free.)

Gabriel should have gone instead of Collins.

If Marley doesn't die in 79 you are all listening to reggae instead of rap.

Agree with Pudge on Will Smith.

I have no idea how to feel about Gwen Stefani.
I am confused why Garth Brooks and Stevie Nicks are listed under Alt-Country, but Tweedy isn't.

You should feel attracted to her, err wait..

Yeah I thought about putting Tweedy in there. Songwriter is obviously a broad spectrum to put someone under, and I think Wilco's music is tough to pin down. It was actually Alt-Country/Rock, remember. I'll edit him in there.

Ehh, calling him alt-country kinda limits Tweedy. Being There has lots of psychedelic touches, Summerteeth is really a Pet Sounds-esque pop album, and YHF is a genre-defying experiment.
