there are 1000s of bands like this. many as good as nirvana? no. plenty as good/better than nirvana? yeah.
i'm not trying to completely discount the guy or his band, i like them a lot (despite never really listening to them anymore). in fact, i'm quite partial to heavy/distorted music that sound sorta messy but underneath lies some subtle, simple melody (say, like
karp (not in anyway getting drafted obv)). but he's not particularly original or anything.
so i kinda agree with the "emo kid, right time right place". and he even admits as much and wore his influences on his sleeve. but i also think that's sort of against the spirit of the draft. Cobain is clearly a cult of personality who had a major, major impact on mainstream music. whether another guy/band would have done the same thing had it not been him is the same argument we could have about Elvis.
