YW.

I like undrafteds cover of this even better. He probably won't even be drafted, if not remind me and I'll post a link.

Undrafted is such a sick good singer, I wonder if anyone even knows him in this forum?

lol kanye? i kid, i kid.

there's one very clear motown person I can think of, and it's no shocker you and your rampant misogyny would take a pass. In truth, Otis is a pretty different beast with a lot more of a soul influence than a bunch of motown, so I can see taking him instead. There are probably some other motown artists I can't think of as well.

Motown isn't NYC. Not draftable imo.

There is one undrafted though who could have easily gone in round 2, not sure how this is possible. I'm sure there are others too, sick deep this draft is.

And my personal favorite musician is still undrafted.
There are loads of people still out there who i would think are easy top 2 rounds, and then another collection of undrafteds who could easily convincingly have gone in the top 2 if presented in the right way ... but it'll be interesting to see if these ever get picked.

On the motowners ... if people are going to focus on longevity and commercial success by some sort of "Sum_{i \in top 40 chart positions} (40 - i)" metric, rather than quality and/or reputation there are a few candidates, but, yes, I don't see these as clearly better value than Otis.

Gaye and Redding both pretty clearly benefit from the death rules as well.

I think focusing on commercial success so boring and the opposite of what this draft is (or should be) about. If that were the focus then you could just pick based on record sales adjusted for time period and be done with it

But what would be the point.

And yeah, I'm sure there are many out there who are of second round quality. Now that I think about it more, the person I'm thinking of is first round value. And thinking about it even more, easy first round value. Maybe i'm overdoing it? When this person is no longer undrafted I will say who I'm thinking of and you guys tell me if I'm nuts.

meh, when this person goes, no one is going to be like "lol lucky pos pop star".

also, at some point, not everyone can be first and 2nd round value. obv.

if it weren't for commercial success, would we have seen so many classic rock acts so far? I can't tell if it's because the SE demographic caters to it or if it's just really successful while being pretty good.

and this hasn't been completely about success. the rules clearly state it's somewhere in between. picks like Elvis Costello (not really a top charter, ever), Iggy Pop, and David Byrne (very modest success post-Talking Heads) were generally applauded.

QFT.

I just looked up the person I'm thinking of on WIKI and thought yeah, first round for sure. But while reading, a name popped up that is also first round value which made me think, there's maybe 100 artists out there that are first round value lol.

Yet here we are, these people are undrafted and Bon Jovi ...

Not to pick on whoever drafted Bon Jovi, I'm just saying ...

Sorry - I missed this while I was posting - I sooo nearly made a comment about that artist and why I don't think that they're really value, but i'll wait until they are drafted (as it'ld be even more of a give away)

I'ld ship out 6-8 of the top 20 to beyond the first 2 rounds. 21-29 are pretty defendable and then there are a few more weak ones in the 30s imo - so loveinvain and me have space for ~10 top 2 round picks, easy

googling/youtubing: I didn't realize who else had recorded this - I'm going to guess that I didn't know your undrafted

According to my cousin who's a musician from way back, this has been covered by countless artists. Funny, I didn't even know that this was an Otis song til now.

Love this thread, when I have time I'm gonna try to peek at all the music links. And I just started downloading music and got itunes finally so it's perfect timing for me.

lol, maybe true. But the cool thing is he can do most of his stuff on his own too, just like Prince. I think Charles and Fogerty can jam as well.

Otis is a good pick imo.

Round 6 Pick 104

I changed my mind and decided to postpone a pick to partner Slash with.

I'm partnering Lennon with....

I really want to like Tool. Maynard has a bunch of cameos in Mr. Show ffs, but all their fans drive me insane so I can't get into them. Having said that he is definitely one of the top 2-3 modern rock musicians available.

no implication as to the quality of his picks, but bnrocks and I have very divergent tastes in music

slash and fleetwood mac are cool tho

Maynard is pretty god damn sick iyam. I don't know whether he is the sole creator in the band, but I don't think so. Sick voice though and their songs are pretty awesome too.

Got to be honest and confess complete ignorance about Tool / Keenan, so I'm just skim listening through youtube. My first impression is that that is a hell of a stretch. It's some kind of gothy-metal? Maybe I haven't understood at all, but if so is that really the leading person in that genre ('cos as far as I can see no one comparable has gone yet)?

Haha the only people I've drafted so far who I listen to on a consistent basis is Lennon and Yorke. I like Fleetwood Mac and respect Garth Brooks and Maynard for their talents what they do. Same with Slash, but like I said, his label partner(s) I'm not drafting quite yet.

I don't doubt Tool are as good musicians as all their fans claim, but for some reasons their music just doesn't do anything for me.

I definitely wouldn't call them gothy-metal.

They are a mix of hard rock, metal, and progressive rock imo. All the guys in the band are pretty sick musicians too.

One problem with the pick, is that I think they are a really strong collaborative band......Just looked through the writing/production credits.
