Bolt probably wins the 50m, 100m, and 200m backwards, sideways, and skipping golds if they had those plus the 400m medley and the relays. Bolt was cheated out of like 39 additional golds over those three olympics because track is not like lolswimming.

you can argue that Phelps accomplished more, but dominance? no way.
Yeah, Bolt won the most prestigious event in the olympics three times and then six more top tier events. If you only go by medals Phelps won swimming the fast way then it's roughly comparable in medal count, but still lol swimming.

To bring some different names into the fold:

If you spliced together all the crazy **** Gael Monfils has done in the past ten years that'd certainly rank up there in entertainment factor.

Tomlinson has to be mentioned here but just misses the cut with that peak 2016 season. Man he was fun to watch when he got the ball.

Sean Taylor RIP right on that cut line too.

Sexy Rexy was fun to watch even if he wasn't very good. Gotta admire a guy who says "f it" when it comes to studying the playbook and makes a Superbowl anyway. Many LOLs to be had watching some of his absolutely hopeless passes.

for hockey, don't know that anyone a higher scoring chances/minute ratio than Sidney Crosby. seems like every shift he's creating a chance or two, pretty damn entertaining.

This thread isn't about dominance. It's about entertainment, no?

What's entertaining about a guy who swims 0.02 km/h faster than the next fastest guy? Using the same technique. While travelling at a speed that correllates approximately to walking.

Humans swimming just isn't very entertaining. It's the reason you can't make a highlight reel of Phelps. Humans running actually is entertaining. Watching a 100m running race is 1000 times more exciting than watching any swimming race.

Pretty sure literally every sports fan I know would have no idea what that was. I'm guessing it's the one where the ball paused before dropping in and the Nike logo was prominent.

You have to be a golf fan specifically to know that stuff. Plenty of people are fans of several sports but don't know **** about golf. Golf is pretty much followed by relatively wealthy older white males, and it's appeal in other markets is very limited.

A highlight reel of Bolt outrunning the competition is actually entertaining though, so I see Bolt as a somewhat worthy mention in this discussion.

Humans running is just so much more entertaining than humans swimming. We're just far better at it. In the same way that basketball is far more entertaining than water polo.

There's nothing entertaining about swimming. You can't even see more than their heads. Unless you are a jingoistic go USA type, it's just boring as hell watching doped up frat boys in spacesuits swimming back and forth.

yeah but there is correlation there. seeing athletes completely clown other athletes (who are in the .01% of the world in terms of talent) can be entertaining.

seeing Bo Jackson run over and past people was super exciting bc he was on an other level athletically. ie, dominant.

but, not all the time. Dion Lewis is really exciting to watch but I certainly would't call him dominant.

someone like Bo Jackson or Randy Moss or Pedro Martinez (not sure if he's been mentioned but he is probably the most exciting baseball player I've ever watched) are both

Aroldis Chapman needs to be here too

Rather electric if you've seen him deal in person, the buzz he sends through the crowd

Yeah watching people run fast is cool. Watching people swim is boring, watching people swim various slow ways is boring and stupid.

michael phelps didn't "completely clown" other athletes. he swam fractions of a second faster than them. BORING.

now if a guy could swim the length of a pool while everyone else is just 75% done that might be exciting
