Anderson is so much quicker than Cro Cop ever was.

That doesn't answer the question. Frankie Edgar is quicker than Cro Cop too.

EDIT: I'm not asking this rhetorically.
Prime Cro Cop was at his best stalking people. He stalks you down into a corner. He is at his best advancing. Fedor advanced on him, always moved forward and roughed him up physically and it took Cro Cop out of his game. Cro Cop is a hunter, not a counter-striker.

Anderson is only 10ish pounds lighter than Cro Cop, and he's much faster. He would love nothing more than for Fedor to move forward against him, which Fedor would assuredly do. He would counter Fedor's swingy hooks with straight punches very effectively.

Damn, that fight sounds like it'd be fun as hell. I don't think your giving Fedor enough credit for being a master strategist though. He's not just going to charge him unless it's very calculated.

Also, because there was some compustrike vs fightmetric talk ITT

from what I understand, compustrike is computed at the fight, ringside, immediately. Fightmetric is computed after the event, with the fightmetric people watching the event in slo-mo on an HDTV.

I consider the fightmetric numbers to be more accurate.

I suppose, but the Cro Cop fight is one of the only fights ever where Fedor doesn't indiscriminately beserker his opponent. He did against Arlovski and AA frustrated him for a few minutes, until a retarded flying knee and a glass chin did him in. Fedor swarmed Timmay pretty good, and he basically swarmed on Rogers as well. His base standing strategy is to let it all hang out very aggressively. He was more calculated in the Cro Cop fight, moving forward but catiously. He still had elements of "just swing baby" though.

I imagine he'd do something like that against Anderson as well. Cro Cop was the most feared striker in the world of MMA at that point, and Anderson is at this point. Fedor would be more cautious, but he can't change what he is fundamentally.

It's so unfair that we don't get to see Fedor fight more often.

troof

at least his opponents are credible now. The stretch where he went

Zuluzihno
Hunt
Coleman (old version)
Lindland
Hong Man Choi

was pretty brutal.

Beat Fedor standing. Anderson's boxing (head movement, reach, punching power, countering) is much better than Mirko's (in his prime).
It isn't like a video game where Anderson has a move that Mirko doesn't.

BTW, Anderson would probably enter into a fight with Fedor at the same size Mirko was when he fought Fedor (6'2", 220 lbs)

lol no.

Hardcore fans sorta look down their nose at The Ultimate Fighter as a lame reality show put out by the UFC to attract casual fans.

Douchebag's sorta look down their nose at The Ultimate Fighter as a lame reality show. Hardcore fans watch it because it's entertaining and a good way to get to know a bunch of fighters that they'll probably have to watch for next few years.

really? lol

the winners and some losers usually end up fighting for UFC and being massively promoted/marketed correct? Seems kind of dumb to look down on something that is trying to promote awareness/popularity of a fringe professional sport in the US market.

Would make more sense if those same hardcore fans weren't also paying $45 to watch some of those same fighters fight on PPV.

A lot of hardcore fans do look down upon TUF. A lot of hardcores do watch it, and the two groups are not mutually exclusive (some dislike the reality show aspects, such as the drama/feuds in the house, but like to watch the training and fights).

And since the first 2 seasons few TUF fighters have gone on to become top 10 in their weigh class.

probably

it doesn't explain why he's done this 3 times in a row at MW, unless you think he did it 3 times in a row.

Edgar is 5'7 155 pounds, Anderson would go into the hypothetical fight 6'2 220 pounds. Not even close to the same thing.

Re: MMA Spring/SummerThread

Don't think Anderson would be quite that big. I think the he said the highest he has ever fought at is 207-210. So even if he walks around at 220 that doesn't mean he'd be comfortable fighting at that weight.

He'd have about a -8% chance at avoiding getting taken down by Fedor.

Re: MMA Spring/SummerThread

Right, just because someone can fight at 220, doesn't mean he's in his optimal fighting shape at 220.

And it's not like Anderson is losing and putting on 25 pounds of muscle every time he shifts weights. If he can make 185, then he isn't as strong as Mirko, even if he would be fighting at the same weight.

tuf doesn't get very good fighters anymore. the first couple seasons were filled with awesome prospects, but a great prospect would have to be getting some terrible advice to go on tuf now. fighting for free 4 times for a chance to get locked into a mid-tier deal for 3 years isn't going to excite many all american wrestlers these days

Re: MMA Spring/SummerThread

He wouldn't need to be as strong as Crocop was, because he'd be much faster than him. Speed is a bigger advantage than power, and Anderson makes guys look slow at 185 imagine fighting at HW. Of course He'd lose some speed fighting at 220 or 210 whatver he'd go into the bout at but it wouldn't be significant. The advantage that Anderson would have over Fedor that he wouldn't have against almost any other HW is a reach advantage. He'd actually be able to control distance to an extent with his superiour speed and slight reach advantage. I think this would be an awesome fight. However the one area where Anderson generally has an advantage is the clinch but I don't think he would have the edge in this fight not just because Fedor is stronger but because of Fedor's Sambo and Judo skills.

I dont think the UFC itself has anything to do with how they train. Their camps train them.

it's not about being tired. the rate at which ufc fighters suffer serious joint injuries in training would make nfl linemen squeamish
